Respect is something that has to be earnt on here. Age is not the trigger to automatically attract it. I am surprised that you think it should be different for a friend of yours.

I hold no animosity towards old man but don't think he will be cut any slack from me, the same as you have done to me. But if his precious little ears can't handle a little vigorous debate, to bad for him. Being outnumbered does not concern me either but if you need the support of the likes of Craig and lippy, good luck with that.

Gough, I'm on your side on this one, but don't get used to it 😉  Agree or disagree with someone that is how the world works, but to say "I'm tired of the bad language and name calling so I haven't been on here much anymore" BULL HOCKEY! If someone is truly "offended" they wouldn't be reading a post titled to themselves in the first place.I don't see Jeff Caldwell going around twisting anyone's arm to log on here.

Oh I don't know.  I keep coming back here hoping to find some intelligence some day.  But mostly I am disappointed.

The views expressed here have become very narrow and ugly and quite hard and intolerant of differences.  Makes true dialogue very difficult.  Nasty language tends to eclipse just about any message.

I think that is why so very many that used to post here are no longer seen.  Perhaps like me they look but don't want to participate in the unproductive and (I don't know how to say it nicely) low level discourse that happens here a lot. 

But I guess I am a fool because I keep posting.

Oh I am so sorry! Sorry to  be defending a decent old man. One that deserves nothing but respect. I'm not that deserving so unload on me all you want. Old man is dignified and he speaks well even when he disagrees.

He doesn't need my help, He is quite capable of meeting any challenge. He has been around awhile so he may just have accumulated a bit of wisdom along the way. I don't know why you are offended. He has disagreed with me on more than one occasion and i am not bothered in the least by anything he has said to me.

A couple things Dairymom, I'm not going to give someone a pass just because they've been on the earth longer than me. As a matter of fact those "elders" born after the WWII generation are largely responsible for the mess that were in due to the entitlement mentality they somehow acquired. So I suppose that someone that doesn't tickle their ears with niceties does come across as distasteful to them. Our country faces serious problems and those that want to talk about giving everybody a bag of treats would be better suited conversing on the "Woman's page". We all have had examples of good teachers and poor teachers in our lives. Maybe the good teacher was colorful and went off the curriculum but you didn't leave the classroom worse than when you entered.

The biggest difference between us oldies and you as we have been paying taxes longer. It's our money that you have been spending and you wish to punish us because we are old or because we saved our after tax money?

As far as wisdom goes, it appears you have not been on this orb long enough or you been listening to the wrong folks. You sound more like a snot nosed kid than a grown adult.

Anyway it is your party that has dug this hole for us. Your tax cuts your wars of choice and your reckless spendingand your reckless deregulation.  Entitlement spending has not got us in this hole. Nor have the seniors that paid the taxes and lent it to you. Only republicans would consider renegging on debt. And our debt is not just to china and saudi arabia and bond investors. Our debt include benefits for seniors for the unemployed and the disabled. You need to understand that seniors have paid for the benefits we receive and you still have a few payments to make on your share.

You need to think just a bit before you puke out your diatribe and that is about as kindly as I can put it.

goodness gracious.  It isn't about age, or how much you pay in taxes or how much you take from the government.  IT IS ABOUT CIVILITY.  Which my typing that in caps isn't very civil.

Somewhere along the line this country has lost all it's manners.

You simply don't win (as if anyone really needs to win) an argument or discussion by being the loudest or by calling names or invoking the basest side of human nature.

I think that is what OLD Man means and why this board isn't very much fun or informational anymore.

You know quite well this forum has been abrasive each time politics is mentioned. It can't be confronting to you when someone tells the naked truth about idiots. In fact, I think you like it just like old man does. For some unknown reason people feel that we all have to be "civilised" in their replies when the opposite was not extended when the question was asked.

Warm and cuddly debates are like watching paint dry and nothing gets a point across when some colourful phrases emphasise a point.

I am probably more guilty than anyone on here but I know the number of people who read it do that because they enjoy. They don't mind someone else saying what they normally think.
