Re: It was just empty rhetoric folks
I haven't talked to everyone under the TP banner (hey that's funny), but the ones I have are very worried about the police state.
A think the masses largely look at civil liberties with a cost benefit analysis.

Re: It was just empty rhetoric folks
You mention Kucinich and I'm reminded of the interview with Ron Paul when he was asked which of the other candidates for President he would be inclined to select as his running mate and he said that he'd probably have to go with the Congressman Kucinich.
The TPers thought they had a natural ally in Ron Paul.

Re: It was just empty rhetoric folks
When Obama first started campaigning for president he used the slogan "Change We Can Believe In" for the first 19 months. After the convention he switched over to the slogan "Change We Need." I'm betting if Obama runs for re-election in 2012 that he will come out with a new slogan that will no longer have the word change in it.

Re: It was just empty rhetoric folks
Bruce says he needs to make it "change I'm not allowed to make", somehow now that Bruce's chosen dem is in power the president is helpless to do anything, yet somehow past presidents could work all sorts of evil. Not sure how that happens or why you'd even bother to vote if you thought such a thing..

Re: It was just empty rhetoric folks
Clever.
Doesn't change the fact that there are inherent barriers to what can be attempted, much less acheived. Stop gap devices that can't be undone. And just enough faux prosperity, and pride in it, to keep democracy from undoing them for now.
I fear we are doomed to see what evolves with the Pheonix. Design of any sort is probably out of the question.

You believe the elected President is the prisoner of the permanent government and the people who believe in smaller government are a great evil. Just DpApMpNpEpD confused.

SEE:
Jim Bakker, **bleep** Cheney, Mark Hannah, Dean Rusk.....
With an administration with no one in place of that order, the delivery methods for the message becomes different. But equally clear.

Re: It was just empty rhetoric folks
I agree Bruce there are most likely limits to what a new president can do regarding the CIA, military and national security. I'm betting there are many well established people in those areas that carry a lot of weight that could easily limit a president. I'll even give you that there are going to some major obstacles opposing a new president in the Treasury and on Wall street. However where I think Obama could have brought about change but didn't is by bringing back so many Clintonites and Wall Street heads. Actually the one person I think he tapped from the Clinton days that is doing a good job is the one that held no official position during the Clinton administration, Hillary. I simply had hoped Obama would would have brought more new fresh faces that might be more willing to make adjustements or try new ways as opposed to just going down the same old road as before.
Rahm, Summers, and Geithner are all ones that I believe Obama should have avoided in favor of someone new. I understand the opinion that a young new president needed experience in the Treasury Dept. especially during such turbulent times but I would argue that these guys really did not have a good track record before so why stick with them now? I think Rahm has some political talents and would make a good majority or minority whip for his party. However I don't think you come into town claiming you want to work across the aisle for change and then go out and get a pit bull like Emanuel for your chief of staff.

Re: It was just empty rhetoric folks
