No one wants to be faced with having to live within their means. What Jim Rogers says about austerity isn`t some sort of dragconian chains around their necks. See, they would restructure their debts into something managable, people would have to buckle in and the holders of the debts would receive haircuts over the deal. If the can is kicked down the road, what is going to happen? Well, bankers are going to stop lending, the flow of money is going to come to a screeching halt and they will end up with austerity by default. We see a mini version of this with what the unions did to GM. GM was forced to concede to union`s demands back in the 70`s, with legacy costs of retired workers each GM worker cost the company "$120/hour". Of course being just a company the sugar daddy government could bail them out, the "PIIGS" are too big for that. Sarkozy was a poor choice to carry the fiscal responsibility mantle, the way he was living large with Carla Bruni.
