Mail in voting
News here was pointing out how your dear leader claims mail in votes is ripe for forgeries etc. BUT he has applied for a mail in vote so he can vote in Florida from ?? Washington?
If it is so bad why is he using it?
Can you believe anything that guy says?

Re: Mail in voting
"Absentee Voting" is not the same as what is now being called "Mail-In Voting", although technically both are indeed mailed.
An absentee ballot is obtained by specifically requesting it, and usually there needs to be some acceptable reason for requesting, although rules have been relaxed in most places and it seems about anything goes due to Covid right now. Probably all states already have this option, but the ballot must be requested by a certain date, properly completed, and postmarked or returned by a certain date. Also, unless it's changed since I've done it, at least in some states you still need to have your signature notarized before sending in your ballot, so you're getting certified that you are who you say you are -- in other states, they simply (somehow) "verify" your signature when your ballet is received.
The way I understand mail-in voting, no ballet needs to be requested, it is simply mailed out to all (presumably) registered voters, whether or not you intend to vote in person. Not all states currently do this, and I think there's a couple of states that do it entirely this way. If used, the ballot still needs to be properly completed and postmarked or returned by a certain date.

Re: Mail in voting
It is sloppy reporting or flat out dishonest reporting on equating absentee voting with the mail in "lazy" voting. If you can`t make it to your polling place on election day, that is a legitimate REASON to mail in a vote. The Democrats want it easy so those lazy clowns collecting welfare, watching Ellen & Twitch dance from their couch will be sure to have their voices heard in the election.
I`m usually harvesting or doing tillage and come in to vote on ELECTION DAY. The way I figure it, I want to wait until that very last hour to vote, just in case the persons that I cast a ballot for suddenly go nuts and change their positions on certain issues. It would bug me to no end if I cast a early ballot and then my candidate flip flopped and I couldn`t change my ballot, it`s bad enough rolling the dice on some of these clowns for 2,4 or 6 years after you elect them.

There’s no indication of widespread potential for fraud.
Even these guys are just talking suppression.

Re: Mail in voting
What is the difference?
You get a ballot in the mail and you send it back in. We have to request for some elections, others the ballots come in mail and you return them properly filled out.
Your dear leader is cutting $$ to post office and then complaining that ballots by mail will lead to election problems BUT wants too mail in his ballot instead of just taking the big plane to Florida for another golf trip and cast the ballot in person.
Sounds like he thinks he can do things that the 'peasants' are not allowed to do.
BTW why do you need to wait for hours in line to vote?
Have never had to wait longer than a few minutes here for any election.
If voting by mail is bad then why are there not enough polls to get voters through in minutes. The long lineups just encourage more voting by mail.
There seems to be encouragement to not vote at polling stations or by mail which would be encouragement to not vote instead of making voting quick easy and simple.
Why would you allow your leaders to do this to the voters?

Your post has mostly been asked and answered. I've also never had to wait longer than a few minutes to vote here for any election. I guess similar to canada there sometimes are lines to vote in the bigger cities.

Re: Mail in voting
The difference -- in some states, they've done a good job of updating voter rolls, other states not so much.
The difference -- absentee ballots, pretty much across the board, are better verified via a long-standing process. This is the process the Pres is using to vote in Florida. This process is and has been open to everyone for a long time, yet it's use on a more massive scale might be more cumbersome, especially wherever they are opening the envelopes and counting the votes.
The difference -- "mail-in" ballots, other than those states with more experience, is a relatively new thing for most, though basically the same as "absentee" ballots once their put in the mail. States that have chosen to go this route for the first time will likely experience some hiccups. Again, there are only a couple of states that have done this in past presidential election years -- hopefully, those states are being used as examples of what to do and what not to do.
The post office -- don't confuse "cutting funding" with "not providing additional funding". The post office generates it's own funds. The post office has said that it can handle the additional volume. While many are accustomed to very impressive delivery times for their mail, the post office has tried to remind everyone of their actual commitments for mail delivery times, and some states do not allow enough turnaround time in their rules for sending out and receiving ballots.
Personally, I've never had to wait in line to vote for more than a few minutes. Actual polling places is not a function of the federal government, it has nothing to do with Trump. If they need more polling places, I do not understand why they don't have them where needed. If they need polling places to be open a day earlier (open for 2 days instead of 1), that alone should double their capacity, although it also doubles the polling costs for the county governments. Everyone should obviously know that many more people vote in fall election in presidential election years.
One party is really encouraging "mail-in" voting, and doing it as early as possible. Their candidate is polling fairly high, and the sooner those votes can be locked in, the fewer people will be left who can change their vote.
