Re: Medicaid and Nursing homes

The problem is, it's an imperfect world and we're imperfect people driving the bus.

a couple of things, first, there is a set amount that medicade/state pay per month, it is far less than the post amount on the

wall.  There are not just old people there, younger people with ALS or advanced MS, also some people with birth defects,

or strokes, then truma patients or head injury patients.......

this is a wide ranging situation.

Yes, there are some wealthy people that transferred things to the kids....but there are also those that didn't have much money

to start with......what do you do ?  You can't just kill them......granted, in some instances they could be in a "greenhouse" community

that would be more cost effective.  Also with advanced technology, we can keep people at home longer...with products from Ihealthlabs

we can monitor blood glucose, weight (see if weight gain from chf), blood pressure, oxygen level, even activity level and when you

sleep.....all of the data is uploaded in real time and can be monitored to catch problems early.  The new medical alarm system

are good, if you fall, it automatically goes off....an advanced system can also include home safety, including fire alarm, and

co2.  you can now get a cost effective system for a cook stove, that say grandma is cooking, and goes in the other room to

watch her story, and a problem happens on the stove, the sensor will shut things down, so there is no fire.  Also we have pill

dispenser systems, that if you don't take your pill it will tattle on you, and a new insulin pen product, that will prevent you

from taking an accidental 2ed dose of insulin.

but to do all the above, you have to have a pretty advance setup, and some eager beavers, and frankly many places don't.

you need some smart people, that think outside the box, that have people care attitudes.....rather we have ding a lings in

Washington and state capitals that have not a clue, and in cases, be in the care home themselves.

TL;DR- The GOP believes & actually legislates for money over people.

Unless they are the " Best People", of course.

I don't know what a "greenhouse community "  is though.

Re: Medicaid and Nursing homes

yes, home care or "aging in place", can be expensive....you can have a visiting nurse come come, also personal ade's, and homemakeser,

and round it out with meals on wheels and a good public transportation system..this all can be done in a rural area, but you have

to have some outgoing people running the show......but still cheaper than $150 a day for the nursing home..visiting home nurse is

about $20, and the personal ades and the homemakers are about $15 an hour.  The meals on wheel are volunteer delivered, and

run $3 to $4......if you have a really good people running the system, you'll have frozen meals available (better than banquet due to

amount of food, and no salt, etc) and there are usda commodity programs, and some food banks now how senior boxes.

the public transportation is a bit more difficult, there can be dept of transportation grants (which would be gone under trump)

a couple of dodge caravan's for $23,000 and a handicapped braun van new for close to $40,000, can do much to make

life easy on our folks living in rural areas. yes you can charge for some of the ride, and grants and fund raisers.

The key is, you have to have people that give a dang.......the problem is, tooo many people in it for themselves

the greenhouse program Is a place that each has a room, and there is a big common room, kitchen, etc, etc.....we all

live and work together......we try to make our meals, do cleaning, laundry.  For each you have a nurse and an ade

to help when needed, and are available 24 hours a day.....some call it assisted living, but that would be considered

a bit more advanced, here, they can still do for themselves, on the most part, and pool their labors to do things.

That greenhouse program is how the hutterites live their entire lives.

But the trouble with home care is that the pool to draw from is slim pickens.

You end up with a person who has a husband or boyfried that  is a meth head or works in a hog confinement abusing sows all day.

They share their stories ( " Accomplishments " )  after work and vote republican.

Re: Medicaid and Nursing homes

If Medicaid cuts affect nursing home recipients, what will happen is the nursing homes will receive less from Medicaid, and the rates for the paying customers will increase to offset, thus increasing the probability that even more people will take actions to protect their assets "just in case", a never-ending spiral of deceit, a total disservice to all the nursing home's paying customers who will need to pursue other alternatives if the costs become overly prohibitive.  Mom won't go without care, it's just a matter of who provides it, at what location, and at what cost.

"people no longer want to pay their debts"   our today farmers fall right in to that category after  all who pays  your crop ins premiums, provides cash year ending  payments . conservation support, all govt programs along with others to support their apparent bad business decisions. the in ability to control input costs.

It appears a farmers can secure declining years resources today by using the saving on CI program along with year ending cash and other taxpayer funded programs.

look in mirror US farmers have no business condemning working people for not  paying their way.

I remember your stated $11,999.00 yearly direct  payts.,  many working people  had to live on that annual income..

Re: Medicaid and Nursing homes

I think one option is long term care insurance.
If bought early, it's "inexpensive" and some
Policy's have an option that if you pass away
And not use it, your heirs get money back.
BUT problem, it's Insurance product and you
Are rated. As it is now it is difficult for me to
Get at my age.
There is a federal program, which was supposed
To be opened to everyone, which could have
Made a huge impact. It was an insurance product
But no health rating.....I think in part it could
Have saved us.

Still don't get your whining about this, anybody and everybody can get in on receiving all of these government farm program payments that you listed.

They can get in on the farming game.

When they look in the mirror they won't complain.

They are now in the business of raising grain.

And can receive the farm program payment gravy train.
