Mighta been a little overly optimistic

in saying vaccination might hit half of the goal by the end of the year- a third is looking optimistic.

My rub isn't with the program as much with the messaging, which is couterproductive to the actual battle. But it is  consistent throughout as Ivanka and Kellyanne regularly silenced CDC for more "positive" messaging.

I'd say you guys can probably jump the gun a little and start blaming Biden for messing up the Trump Miracle on about Jan. 15.

BTW, if you assume that vaccination proceeds at about half the pace of the happy talk projections and public health measures remain a hodge podge, this is going to stay very tough well into spring.

100 days of masks etc. beginning 1/20 could theoretically bend it back pretty sharply but that will be voluntary and probably won't change behavior a lot. The same knucklehead nihilists will still be a problem.

Re: Good news, the number of .....

The only good news is that the number of "knucklehead nihilists" declines every day.  Not fast enough and it takes too many innocents too, but some.

BTW, CN won't get a vaccine for a bit and EU just starting.

But national health systems will run the programs a lot smoother. I'd be willing to bet that both will surpass the US quickly.

And I suppose the generally higher regard for ones' fellow citizens that support for such a system implies.

Re: The point is, they have a system, we don't even ....

The point is, they actually already have a system, national or not.  One of the things that has become apparent in the past weeks is that we have no organized existing system to move medical supplies around the country.  I was amazed to see just how scattershot the initial vaccine delivers have been.  New Jersey missed the first round because they didn't get their paperwork in on time.  If I had been a governor I would not have wanted to miss that one.

One of the baseline problems here is a substantial percent of folks who would rather fail than have an example that government can work.

They'd actually be very happy to claim victory when corporate socialist incentives work and then "let the market decide" about the rest.

BTW, I don't have any reason to think that others would not have arrived at a similar strategy but the vaccine effort was a huge success. Put up the money so they can run all of it in parallel and seed many different angles.

I rather doubt that Jared and his frat bros. who messed everything else up were the brains behind that.
