National Emergency

Your dear leader has set the precedent of 'declaring an emergency' where there is not emergency so that sets the precedent for a real caring leader to 'declare an emergency' to solve the rising number of deaths by gun in the US  link -- gun deaths in the US to its highest rate in more than 20 years, with almost 40,000 people killed in shootings in 2017, according to new figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A real emergency that obviously need gun control with taking all surplus guns out of circulation and strict licensing to only those who have a real need for one or maybe 2 maxium

Re: National Emergency

There were more than 63,600 drug overdose deaths, while out of the "40,000 people killed in shootings", 14,415 were homicides and 22,938 were suicides (out of 36,531 total suicides).  I assume the balance were accidental, but didn't look it up.  Now, just comparing the 14,415 gun-related homicides to some other stats, there were 58,335 poisoning deaths, 40,327 motor vehicle traffic deaths, and 34,673 deaths from falls.  You can read anything into the stats that you want, but the "gun problem" is actually a "people problem".  Still, I agree there are some needs for gun ownership restrictions -- felons, those with demonstrated/proven mental instabilities, etc., so long as the other 99% of gun owners are not giving up their constitutional rights.

Re: National Emergency

But the precedent has been set that a President can just say it is a National emergency and do what he or she wants.

Some call those kind of leaders dictators.

Looks higher, like 70 some odd thousand in 2017 WCMO.

But narrative and all.....I'm sure Canuck will be back to let us know why the NE for women and kids trafficked along with the thousands more of drug deaths is evil.

And hey Canuck, ready to ban cars....40k...that's just too many! Not one more life!   Back to the horse and wagon we go.....Green plan!

Re: National Emergency

It isn't a "precedent", that's just what Pelosi says.  We had many other declarations and executive orders in the past.

Of course, Congress can terminate the declaration via joint resolution of House and Senate.

Re: National Emergency

Of course if you just believe all these bad things are happening across the Mexico border then you will just believe your dear leader.

Of course if you stick to facts the number of people coming across the border is fewer now than it has been and all those drugs  come in by other means than across that border.

belief allows anything to happen but reality is often much different
