Newtown sides with the NRA

Looks like they have decided gun free zones are not the way to go.

snip-

As the nation continues to confront the concept of "good guys with guns" in schools, armed guards are coming in force to Newtown, Connecticut. Late Thursday the Newtown Board of Education voted to request the presence of two kinds of guards inside the town's elementary schools. The vote, for now, only represents a request — it still needs to clear budget and logistical boundaries since the guards would come from the town's police resources as opposed to the school board itself. But the plan "would put two eyes and ears -- one armed, one unarmed -- at each Newtown school," reports Bronxville Patch's Davis Dunavin. The guards, officially called school resource officers (SROs), were already a fixture at all Newtown schools in the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, but until this vote they were budgeted only to be a presence at middle and high Schools, according to NBC Connecticut.

Closing the door after the horse already left. The chances are 99.9% it won't happen in that school again, in 100 yrs.

Re: Newtown sides with the NRA

Before you hyperventilate at the inclusion of guns in schools and more justification for guns, remember, according to your snip, there is nothing set in concrete yet.  The ones which are currently patrolling with guns could end up in an even worse shootout with another gun nut.

How long do you think it would take an armed gunman to jog to the other side of the school after the shooting begins?  Even with a 10 shot clip in each of his 3 weapons, he could do some damage before he shot himself.  Your sherriff with a gun would not have his bootlaces done before this nut could killed 10.  Think about it.

Of course it would be cynical for me to think the gunman would open fire in front of the school sheriff.

Re: Newtown sides with the NRA

You are correct, it will not happen again because, there will be armed guards in the school.

Re: Newtown sides with the NRA

We can only hope that it doesn't happen again, but as I said, to that school, armed guards or not, very improbable.

If and when they start doing though back ground checks, people that are identified as a risk, will be less likely to commit these atrocities.
