Re: Britain austerity not going so well
Back in the day, my little town had a very popular hamburger joint. Big and very tasty burgers in a drive in setting. Like the 50s (which it was)! His business fell off in about 1960 and he raised the prices of his burgers. More business fell off and he raised them again. Still more business fell off and he closed the doors. People are spending money now and if we cut spending, people won't have that money to spend that keeps businesses from closing the doors. Of couse, there is always room to cut back but not on SS and Medicare benefits. These are the people who are keeping the businesses open. The fat cats don't go to ACE hardware or wally world or Micky Ds.

Re: so what would you do
Thanks for your answer I agree with most your first paragraph not sure on consumption tax It can be a bit regressive if not structure right. I think raising the income limit to 250000 to collect ss taxes would take care of long term problem on the ss Thanks for your answer I wish the people in congress could discuss things this way

Re: so what would you do
If you read the whole story the republican house and the senate republican changed the original intent on the budget so it was not really the budget the that President put forth. So the long winded answer is yes The unadulterated budget. Even the democrats said they would support the unadulterated version not the adulterated version the republicans served up

Harry Reid runs the senate. He can put Obama's budget up word for word anytime he so chooses.

Just raising the limit on SS isn't going to change a thing. Well except to just kick the can farther down the road. Just the opposite of your statement. It whould cure the short term problem
See, the pay out is based on what you pay in. Raising what you pay in will just raise what is payed out when you start collecting SS at retirement.
