Now Holder caught tapping journalist phone messages
Talk about a bunch of out of control tyrannical dictators.
snip-
On Monday afternoon, the Associated Press reported that the U.S. Department of Justice had “secretly obtained two months of telephone records” from 20 phone lines assigned to reporters and editors from the global news organization. The shocking revelation comes on top of news that the IRS targeted conservative groups for special scrutiny. It will be harder for President Obama to pin the DOJ’s action on lower level bureaucrats, however, because requests to subpoena news organization records require the approval of Attorney General Eric Holder.

You idiot! You have no idea what the Justice Dept did yet you accuse the head man of "tapping" their phones! He didn't.

Once again we have this administration targeting private individuals. And you want them in control of your health care.

Journalists on Monday called the news the Justice Department seized records from phone lines assigned to Associated Press offices and its reporters over a two month period “chilling” and a “dragnet to intimidate the media.”
The AP reported the Justice Dept. obtained records that listed incoming and outgoing calls and the duration of those calls for work and personal phone numbers of AP reporters and phone lines for AP offices in New York, Hartford, Conn. and Washington, as well as the main number for AP reporters in the House of Representatives press gallery. The government seized records — which listed incoming and outgoing calls and the call’s length — for more than 20 separate lines assigned to the AP and its reporters, according to the AP.

Re: Now Holder caught tapping journalist phone messages
Why did you add the "tapping" to your title? It doesn't say anything about wiretapping! You don't know what they did other than they got the records for calls to and from certain reporters. Bush gave them that little bit with the Patriot Act.

Re: Now Holder caught tapping journalist phone messages
I think your complaint should be directed to the phone companies who gave up the records. If they thought it was wrong, why did they do it?

Great piece on that here....
Reading it I was caught by the notion that this is possibly an opportunity for the real liberals and the real libertarians to find some common ground. It's a touchy topic for conservatives, as conservative politics is so deeply dependent on keeping the composite fabric of oligarchists, social and cultural conservatives and neoconservatives knit together. If it comes down to just Obama hate or just social liberal hate the conservatives, and most particularly the GOP, lose big time, bad as this is and as bad as it looks for the Obama administration.
The Tea Party is the closest thing that we've had to a genuine populist or libertarian movement on the conservative side and it has so depended spectacularly on toeing the line to keep the oligarchs funding it nominally and from not blowing it up....which they could in a heart beat.
What's going on is the continuation of neoconservative AND military industrial complex policy as expressed essentially in The Patriot Act...passed, BTW, with the near full support of Democrats in The U.S. Senate. This guy gets to what it might take to fix things and hints at who might need to come together to try. No idea if there is enough wind or will, but he lays it out there quite well.
