Re: Obama care IS government care.

Canuck, they can go to the emergency room any time they want and they can not be turned away. No one in the US is denied health care. The question we are debating is who and how to pay for it.

Re: Obama care IS government care.

You apparenrly know little about big city hospitals where emergency rooms are closed with very  few public hospitals. mostl  have gone to for profit only hoapitals thats how they ration care there.     Problem with peo[le like you in the ag business don't understand what the real world of self respondisibilty  is all about,   you are so use to having big govt to provide for you in time of economical set backs like low grain price or  govt subsidied paid ins to protect you asssets  or  speical govt office to pay for  drainage prolems on YOUR land, direct cash payts .   If these subsidied mentioned and all other available to you were taken away you wouldn't be so quick to rant about people taking respondisbility of themselves.

Hobby, not one single thing you mentioned will do anything to bring down the cost of health care. Not one.

Re: Obama care IS government care.

You are right.  There is definately a disconnect between "big city types" and the ag sector.  A generation ago everyone had a connection to the farm -- like parents, uncles or grandparents. Now the only connection is the grocery store. The story (see popcorn article in http://jplovescotton.wordpress.com/) about the person who had no idea where popcorn came from -- just "pops" up on the grocery shelf.  The ag sector needs to do a better job of educating those "in the real world".  Not too sure what in the cities is "real".  How many times do I still read how the government pays farmer not to plant.  When was that the case -- 1989???

You are just jealous that I get an "income tax refund", i.e. government welfare ag pmnt, so I don't have to cover all those non-essential government programs, e.g. Humanity for the arts, studies on the snail darter, a walking bridge beween Omaha and Council Bluffs, etc. Go back to the founding fathers (especially Jefferson -- not John Adams) and see what the original puropose of the federal government was for.

Since most farmers are self employed they don't have the mentality that health insurance is a "right' and has to be paid by their employer (who is rapidly becoming the federal government).  By the way, this was just a scheme set up so employees get pre-tax insurance premiums. Lets decouple insurance from the employer and everyone pay their own directly or can't the real worlders save money from their pay check for insurance.  Ours has to be paid by our business which comes directly from our bottom line.  So we shop around, take big deductables to keep the cost down and don't go to the emergency room for a sniffle.

I must go check the mail to see if my "inconme tax refund" has come today....

Good luck out there in the real world.  I wouldn't change places with you for anything.  We like to tell you "how rough" it is out here in fly over country -- to keep the riff raff out.

Re: Obama care IS government care.

Who do you think is paying for those that cannot afford coverage or healthcare. Other patients or the taxpayers. The idea being that more people insured will not burden other patients or the taxpayers as much.

Obamacare as you call it does not deal with health care fees. It only addresses insurance reform in an effort to get more people covered so that they can pay for care. You want to negotiate doctors and hospitals, well good luck but i assure you that most of them are very busy and do not need to offer discounts to get people in the door.

Re: Obama care IS government care.

There are thousands if not millions that don't go to doctors because of the out of pocket costs. My son is one of them. He has insurance through his job but does not want to pay the deductable. Others without insurance cannot afford to go at all. Note that every clinic asks you for proof of ability to pay before the doctor sees you.

With his mind set. Maybe he can talk the Drs. into paying with corn, or chickens!!

Re: Obama care IS government care.

I don't know how he can possibly negotiate with doctors and hospitals. He certainly is not persuasive at all. I can just see a $500 per hour doctor spending 5 minutes to haggle with him.

He still thinks that complex problems can be solved with simplistic solutions. I think if we are going to educate him he needs to be receptive and pay for the education. This precisely why teachers have modest success rate. They get too many students that are impossible to educate.

Same reason that I don't have a fishing boat (out of pocket costs).  Guess we all make choices on what is important.  Does your son have a big screen TV or buy a six pack of beer occasionally?  My son has a big screen but does not go to the dentist for regular checkups.

Re: Obama care IS government care.

You're right. Business or employers should not be involved in providing health care. I think it was developed in day of wage and price controls when businesses could offer benefits on the side to entice people to work for them.

Businesses should not be making such personal decisions for their workers.
