Rep Luis V. Gutiérrez, one of Congress’ most outspoken advocates for immigrants, on Wednesday called for expanding the Affordable

Care Act to cover all of the estimated 11 million undocumented migrants in the United States.

“The goal is to make integration and inclusion real for millions of families that are locked out under current law,” the Illinois Democrat said in a floor speech introducing his proposed legislation.

“As it stands right now, undocumented immigrants are not subject to the individual mandate and cannot buy into health insurance exchanges even if they use their own money. My legislation will change that. It says that we stand for inclusion.”

The GOP House will deal with doing what they do best. Starting with keeping it from ever seeing any commitee action. But keep on keeping us updated on all of this stuff that will never happen.

Moot point.  It's not a bill. Just a position statement.  If it were, and it got there, the testimony and the individuals testifying  might be interesting.

Not a moot point. A proposal by a US congressman. And under single payer what happens to ILLEGALS? They covered by American taxpayers or not?

Yes it is as we don't  have it. If it's ever enacted I'm sure there will be discussions and votes over who is covered. Will be left to whomever the sitting lawmakers are at the time. In the meantime, you can remain alarmed at the prospect.

Socialized medicine and one-payer system is great if you don’t mind:

• Waiting 18 months to get a hearing aid
• Being denied a cancer drug because it’s too expensive and you are too old
• Delivering your baby in a hospital bathroom with your mom helping you
• Your baby being born in the hospital parking lot because there is a severe shortage of nurses
• There are no beds in the hospital so whatever emergency you have, burns, delivery, stroke, heart attack, broken limbs, you must wait
• “12-minute ambulance ride takes nearly three hours—every time”
• Having your cancer undetected after 50 hospital visits
• Hospital telling you that you must “come back when you are blind”
• Being penalized for paying for your own treatment or drugs
• Being turned away while in labor
• Flying 5,000 miles to escape National Health System’s wait
• Suffer mixed-sex ward misery while terminally ill
• Being threatened that your health care will be taken away if you pay for supplemental care yourself
• Drowning in hospital bathtub while in labor and left unattended
• Spending all night on a hospital gurney and ignored
• Being left on a cold hospital floor in your old age
• Having transportation refused to and from hospital because you are in a wheelchair

That's pretty much the reality of what socialized , and one payor, medical services look like. THe free market is a wonderful construct to motivate innovation and excellence....how any American socialist can look around and not comprehend that totally befuddles me. THinking, maybe I mean dreaming, that a govt single payor health delivery system is going to function well is the absolute height of folly.

These senior citizens look at Medicare, a system that functions with taxpayer assistence, and with concessions by the medical industry of half or so of the total bill, and think that it can be extrapolated to 100% of the population. Somebody needs to smell the coffee on this one, and when you read national pundits echoing the idea that a single payor, govt system would be a good one, you can see why the sheep need new shepards.

I have two close family members that I am pretty sure would have died this summer under Britain's socialized system. THank God for the remnants of a free enterprise, capitalistic system here in America.
