If you want medicare you have to pay for it like most industrial nations do today. They don't have healthcare bankrupting their citizens. They pay for it and appreciate what it does for them.
In america the private insurance industry charges a high premium for coverage. Then if consumers need to use it the deductable and copay make it unaffordable even after you have paid those thousands in premiums
The only reason that medicare is having financial difficulty is that some folks don't want to pay. I bet you could pay another percent and could I. You do know that medicare is funded by Fica taxes which is about a 2.5% tax rate. I hope that extra one percent does not break you but most of us could take it in stride.
I buy a supplement for a tidy sum that only pays 20% of a medicare approved claim. The cost of the supplement is more than the medicare premiums. So much for private insurers competing with medicare.
