Re: Oh, the horror of it

I could care less what he's been doing for the past 25 years. Could have been in jail along with G. Gordon Liddy or any of the other Nixon  perps for all I care. Go to the library or Barnes and Nobles (can't go to Borders...they bit the big one earlier this week) and you'll see that alot of people write books. I actually wasn't aware that he had one out just recently.

I'm more interested in his suggestions and the warnings he's emitting. If some notable jailbird like Liddy, or Charlie Manson or Tom Delay (God, it feels good to mention those two in the same sentence) was offering up resonable advice, I'd at least listen to it.  (Ironically, when you get to the heart of the matter another noted jail bird name of Kazinski actually sort of did...ydid ou ever read that?)

He doesn't have his own forum. He doesn't PAY these networks or websites to bring him on to express his views...he's probably been on FOX and CNBC fully as much as he has on MSNBC....they ask him on.

Watch the clip sometime if you've got 5 minutes.

Re: Oh, the horror of it

I watched it and also read his bio on wikipedia, for what that's worth. I'm just saying that we shouldn't be quick to praise or agree with him because we may like or agree with what he says.

He helped institute the long trends that are very apparent today starting at the beginning of Reagan's first term. So, he put up some resistance to certain elements of that plan, which also hasn't been deviated from since, only adjusted to maintain it's trend line, and being only 10% or 20% guilty by his involvement is still guilty. He's a failure in the real world of finance and at putting his knowledge or beliefs into action in that area too. But, where he really lost my interest was pointing to the same old falsities in our supposed budget shortcomings. The last I knew, SS and Medicare was funded by itself, although the funds are diminishing faster than they are coming in, pointing to those two and saying they are a part of the cause of all problems is ludicrous. The only way that I see either of those two things as an issue, is because the lack of funds to payout must be borrowed because they have already been spent, so interest is the only issue.

But, if we apply the same somewhat loose standards to saying SS and Medicare is a "cost", let's also apply that to the numerous amounts of foreign aid that is given to specifically buy our military hardware or equipment, because that also affects the numbers.

Beyond that, anything Stockman says can be interpreted to be against the status quo, which is Obama's budget. Of course the right leaning networks would give him the time of day. I think he's just trying to put himself in the spotlight to help sell his book, or give it some credibility.

The Kazinski thing kind of flew over my head, what did you mean about that?

Re: Oh, the horror of it

RE; Kazinski (sp?) ...was just wondering if you'd ever taken the time to read the manifesto. Not as off mark as once may have seemed.

Stockman DID warn back at the creation of it all. I remember that and it is well noted. He saw through the MIC long term takings agenda.

As for S.S. and Medicare being considered "costs" it's becoming fashionable to describe them as you do, but nonetheless the cost of boomer retirement and the incredible mess that the costs of the comprehensive medical care complex as it is set up in this twice as expensives as anywhere else country is, regardless of how paid for, have to play in to the greater economic picture.

Stockman confesses to the need to raise revenue. Even thogh set up "off budget" those entitlement programs will require the raising of revenue, off budget or not. Not unlike the huge off budget liabilities we face from the wars. Break it down however you want, I guess, but the piper is still going to be sending out invoices.

Re: Oh, the horror of it

I looked it up because I had never read it before, and it looks like a few parts make sense, but mostly is a rant on people or things he was against, and strongly resembles the ramblings of Glenn Beck.

Maybe I am too much of a all or nothing person, but Stockman was complicit in those things coming about regardless of his reservations and the extent of them. If he was that knowledgeable and thought them through wholly, why didn't he try to stop it altogether, instead of going along because "just a little won't hurt things too much"?

Re: Oh, the horror of it

Just to clarify things. The jet fighter is built with an engine. The engines in the bill were one extra engine for each aircraft made. Thus they build 200 fighter and they build 200 extra engines. It makes more sense to build 50 extra engines and tool up again if they need more.

Re: Oh, the horror of it

Doesn't really matter if they wanted to build 15 extra engines or only the main one.  A big contract was in Ohio and boehner wanted it bad and the tea party folks had to make a tough decision to go against the Man or vote with the Devil.  They chose the Devil. Rather ironic to me--and hilarious!!
