Past catching up

News story last night was about how followers of THE church were fewer and getting fewer every year and one of the reasons..........

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/germany-catholic-abuse-report-1.4837364

A top German bishop has apologized for thousands of sexual abuse cases that took place inside the Catholic Church in Germany, according to a devastating report released Tuesday that concludes at least 3,677 people were abused by clergy between 1946 and 2014.

As well as other stories about similar 'activities' like the one announced yesterday in Ontario of a church leader losing their job while investigation is carried out.

I think more people are giving up on old folk tales with no evidence behind then and living in reality too as another reason for falling church numbers.

Getting to be lots of abandoned or torn down churches through out the country.

Re: Past catching up

What do you expect from a cult that votes in a mortal man to adorne with gold, jewelry and the finest clothes. A cult that believes other mortal men can forgive you of sin. A cult that prays to statues. A cult that had an army and made kings throughout the Middle Ages. A cult that for hundreds of years reined terror and torture for 400 years during the “inquisition”. Catholicism is a vulgar, evil cult.

Re: Past catching up

Isn't Canada getting more religious not less?

Re: Past catching up

Tricky theological matter as we in mainstream Protestant denominations still acknowledge our roots in the holy (small c) catholic church but maintain that Rome lost its way some centuries back.

But yes, the outfit is entirely twisted into knots over celibacy, male dominance and more than anything, an insane opposition to contraception and identity now entirely tied to opposition to abortion.

I don't have any standing in the matter since I'm outside the triad of thumperdom (evangelicals, Mormons and Catholics) but as I just noted, a lot of theological sniping among them but they stand shoulder to shoulder on conservative social issues.

Re: Past catching up

Not according to stats.

2011 Census shows almost 25% with no religion in 2001 it was considerably lower.

More people are dropping beliefs in magic beings and living in reality in Canada and most other countries too. Yes even in your country.

Shoulder to shoulder

Yes murder is wrong in most religions including the one true religion, Christian as in The Church of Christ

Re: Past catching up

Lots of similar problems in other religions too but the Catholics did hide their 'problem' better than most.

Still hard to hide things like that forever and the past is certainly coming back to bite them now.

Helps a lot of people to shake the brainwashing they endured in childhood and look a life realistically instead of 'just believing' in magic beings that are really unbelievable when people think about it since there is no evidence of any of those magic beings existing

A lot more evidence of Santa Claus or the Easter bunny than any of the invisible beings that churches propose.

Re: Past catching up

Love is invisible but tea. So is hate. As far as magical, nothing can get more magical than life itself. Again I feel sorry for you that you can see so few possibilities.
