Obama`s big lie was "America has never been stronger relative to the rest of the world".  Peter tells of where the term "ugly American" came from, in the 50`s the US was a CREDITOR nation, the world owed us money and we sold goods overseas, rich Americans travelled abroad at bargain rates relative to the US dollar.

The Swiss wanted to raise their minimum wage to $50,000/yr, the problem was 95% of the Swiss make MORE than $50,000!  Do 95% of Americans make $50,000 a year???  Most that actually work don`t , those taking advantage of the welfare system are close they make  $38,000 or $40,000.   Obama can`t be that damned dumb, he has to understand what a mess it is, yet he bold faced lies about it.  The West Point cadets throw their "made in China hats" in the air as the band plays.

The Swiss did not vote on an  'increase' the minimum wage, to around $25, they voted on a measure that would ESTABLISH a minimum wage, of around $25 an hour. 
Switzerland has no National Minimum wage law, so technically, the National Swiss minimum wage, would be zero.  (I belive that the individual States do that).

Switzerland has (compared to the US) a limited/weak central/federal government, but with more power to the individual State governements.

So, when someone wants to use Switzerland as an example of high wages, they need to realize that there is no Federal minimum wage, and a limited central government.  Pay is determined by agreements between the workers and bosses.

The economically liberal country does not currently have a nationwide minimum wage. Pay is determined by individual employment contracts or via collective bargaining agreements, some of which also set industry-specific minimum wages.

Now you know d well that is a gd lie. You don't know even one person that gets close to $38 or $40 k from the welfare system. However their are conservative farmers that get that much or more. And they look down the long blue noses in disgust at the welfare folks.  Right Red!

Funny, but I always thought the term 'ugly American" cam from, like today, MANY Americans refuse to learn any foreign words to try to speak to someone who doesn't speak English. That happens all the time here but overseas, when Americans travel, they show their butts with their arrogance about everything from food to autos and language!!

I didn't say that.  One could say they were going to raise it from zero to $25 or so an hour, but it was worded like it was an increase of minimum wage, not an establishment of one.

Isn't it funny, though, that the country where the average wage is something like $50K, has no minimum wage.
