Cecil the lion – the most famous creature in one of Zimbabwe's national parks – was killed by an American hunter who has boasted about shooting a menagerie of animals with his bow and arrow, The Telegraph can reveal. Walter Palmer (above left), a dentist from Minnesota, is believed to have paid £35,000 to shoot and kill the much-loved lion with a bow and arrow. The animal was shot on July 1 in Hwange National Park. Two independent sources have confirmed the hunter's identity to the paper, which has also seen a copy of the relevant hunting permit. Conservation groups in Zimbabwe reacted angrily to the news that the 13-year-old animal had been killed: partly because the lion was known to visitors and seemingly enjoyed human contact, and partly because of the way in which he was killed. Holly O’Donnell, a licensed phlebotomist, said she “unsuspectingly took as job as a ‘procurement technician'” at the fetal tissue company StemExpress, which was allegedly the primary buyer of fetal body parts from Planned Parenthood.

She said she fainted on her first day on the job when she was asked to dissect a “freshly aborted” baby.

Concerning Planned Parenthood’s repeated denials that they make any money from the exchange of body parts for cash, something that would be illegal under federal law, O’Donnell said, “For whatever we could procure, they would get a certain percentage. The main nurse was always trying to make sure we got our specimens. No one else really cared, but the main nurse did because she knew that Planned Parenthood was getting compensated.”

The new video also shows undercover footage of Dr. Savita Ginde, vice president and medical director of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, who operates abortion clinics in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Nevada.

She was secretly videotaped in the Planned Parenthood pathology lab, where babies are taken after being aborted. She also talks about making money for body parts: “I think a per-item thing works a little better, just because we can see how much we can get out of it.”

I read about this. In American Dollars, one report listed that amount as about $55,000. I think this issue of big game hunting of species like lions and elephants, as well as other big cats and rhinos needs some discussion. They lured this lion off the reserve with carcasses. 

I hope people will ignore 3020's attempt to derail the discussion and if you will 3020, repost your subject on your own so that you can have a fair hearing on your issues.

Back to high dollar trophy hunting. This lion known as Cecil was of course taken as a trophy. You can read where they found his skinned and decapitated body if you look at more articles. As a tourist attraction, he made big money and created jobs for those who work on the reserve where he formerly lived. Since the reserve is doing well, more lions can breed and multiply there and they will in turn attract more eco-tourism dollars. As a dead trophy, he does not create jobs and nobody but the safari business makes money off of his death. That's the cold, plain truth.

The moral side of this issue is that I firmly believe that if I kill something, I am going to do it because I want to eat it. Hunting American game causes little issues because there are so many. There are species that should be off limits like eagles, wolves and others that are low in numbers like bears, but even bears are managed. Things like elephants should never be killed unless they turn on people as well. Selling them for profit from ivory is equally bad. Obama just moved to make ivory trade with the US even more illeagle than it has been in the past, but the NRA is balking about ivory inlay in firearms. Go figure.

I don't think lions should be hunted as long as they are not killing people. I want to live in a world where there are lions and they can live out their days without being shot for a windfall of profit.

What does this accomplish?

Baiting out a lion that is conditioned to a fair degree of human contact then shooting him, tracking him for a couple of days, taking his head, removing the collar.

You know this guy knew what he did was illegal and wrong. There is no way to miss that collar when you are taking the photos and hacking off a head.

This guy is a dentist. Don't they teach ethics to medical people ?

His FB page and business website have been taken down. But people are using yelp and other social media to destroy what little humanity he has ever had.

When Dan Blocker ("Hoss Cartwright") passed away, the local newspaper had a eulogy. It said that his sons had asked him when he would take them deer hunting. His reply was that he would when the deer get rifles and can shoot back.
