I know that homosexuality was considered a mental disorder until political pressure rather than science intervened. I have never felt mentally aberrant people should be penalized any more than penalizing a person with a broken leg or other body part.
I don't believe that accepting their behavior as normal makes any kind of sense nor do I believe that they should be allowed religious marriage or religious profession claiming that they aren't sinners or that their life is normal. We should accept them as sinners if they wish to enter church and worship but to pretend that God (Christian God) finds them normal is incorrect.
To those who claim Jesus never discussed the subject, I recommend reading the Bible and realizing that Jesus TAUGHT from the old Testament. In that marriage is discussed as is the immorality of homosexuality.
