Back when America was great, the National Weather Service made some amazing strides that have, still do, and will save countless lives. People used to look at this stuff and think it was a grand thing and even that it was progress. They were right. Republicans had better be careful what they wish for if they don't want access to tornado, flash flood and other weather information to be by subscription only. There are some things that government does that are good and that are simply worth it in taxes. There are some things that are not worth the cost and would be better to hand off to the private sector. The Weather Service is a good thing and worth paying for in taxes.
As a side note, appointing unqualified people, often with conflicts of interest, is one of Trump's big techniques. We have seen it countless times. He wants them to need his advice. It's a form of control. It's also the thing that politicians used to do when America was "great." You appoint a big donor to an important position and have them obey your will while at the same time letting them feather their own nests.
