Should the US use the same covid restrictions as Australia?

No, but had we had a coordinated national public health policy a year and a half ago we would have saved several hundred K lives.

Now it is just about getting people vaccinated and some brush fires about masks in schools.

AUS has not don well with vaccinations.

Don't cause them to think to hard Ron.   They probably need to rest after yesterday.  The lengths they went to in their arguments that the vaccine was extremely effective so long as a person is not exposed to the virus really taxed them.
