Re: Will your savings support you during your retirement

social security will be there if you protect it and defend it. BTW  there was the same talk 50 years ago when i was a youngun and thinking retirement was a really long ways away. The fact is conservatives want to break it. The business world does not like paying for even part of it. The wealthy think it is an unnessessary expense. meanwhile there are millions of folks that retire with little savings because they never were paid enough. The same conservatives want to depress wages because only they deserve a part in the promise of america.

There is no reason that SS taxes should be exempted after $105K. Nor should capital gains be exempted from SS taxes. If its charity why are those investors exempted from the responsibility. Should mitt romney with capital gains income be exempt for SS taxes. $215 million in income and alousy 13% federal tax rate. When the shoe clerk in a clothing store pays 15% in fica taxes alone and doesn't have a multimillion dollar income.

Too much income exempted and if we paid a prescribe rate on every dollar of income the rate could be lowered significantly on lower to modest incomes. Every time we vote for a tax cut for the affluent we are voting for higher deficit.. They, the affluent , have the means and the connections to buy the legislation they want. And it doe not work in your favor or mine.

Make the SS program voluntary. If it is so great why does it have to be mandated?

You only have to pay your tax. You don't have to collect anything. You stand on your principles all the time so don't sign up for it when you reach the age. No one will force you!

And your daddy was entitled to mine. How have you managed to survive with no brain?

He wasn't entitled to yours, you were forced to give it to him. Now your money is gone and you want someone to be forced to give it back.

How completely asinine you are! You think you are sitting pretty, have nothing to worry about? You think you have it all figured out, one question, what happens when, after Wall Street crashes, you or the wife have a devastating health problem, and you end up penniless? You sir, are a jackass.

If it is such a good program why not make it optional? Why mandate everyone participate? Let those whom choose to do so opt out. Once wall street crashes there will be no capital gains to tax anyway.

If it is such a good program why not make it optional? Why are you such a bone head? If it wasn't mandatory, it wouldn't work!! Why mandate everyone participate? Wake up! It's been working for over 70 yrs. and accomplished what it was intended to do, give people an income that allowed them live in dignity! Let those whom choose to do so opt out. So, don't pay it! Good luck, your going to need it! Once wall street crashes there will be no capital gains to tax anyway. With what the GOPhers are about to do it won't take long.
