Red faced

Anyone catch ABC interviw with several new tea party congress members. One being Vicky Hartzler MO who was red faced when asked  if she would vote against a farm subsidies spending since her hubby collect $780.00.00 in subsidies.  Her  remark was she would  have to look into it (red faced)    Her hubby owns couple of IH farn dealerships, imagine if she would do as she campained on less spending and farm subsidies being one, he just well put the keys in door.    She can't be to bright to go tv thinking no one going to bring this up.    .

Re: Red faced

Hey Hobby, there`s no reason for Vicky to be "red faced" without a whole lot of other red faces in the audience.  What would you say if I told you that Teachers today are better off than Farmers today compared to 1980? And I`m going to prove it right now?....I was a sophomore in `80 and at a career day a teacher said his salary was $10,000. If that salary followed inflation, in 2010 it would be $26,553.73.....in actuality today a starting teacher makes OVER $40,000/yr!

In 1980 a bushel of corn was $3.00. To keep up with inflation it should be $7.97/bu.... corn closed at my elevator ...Today..that get this .....$5.71/bu  !!!!

In summary, the Teacher salary went up TWICE the rate of inflation. While the farmer`s bushel of corn went up two dollars ...SHORT of keeping up with inflation!  Here`s  the link to the inflation calculator, see how what you do compares, enjoy!

If ya coulda proved me wrong

.....Ya woulda. BTW I wasn`t saying anything negative about teachers so tell your wife to calm down. I was only comparing Farming  to Teaching, two honorable professions. Just that Teachers have fared aliiittle bit better than Farmers in keeping up with inflation.   Smiley Happy

Re: If ya coulda proved me wrong

I don't know why you would have chose teachers? I defy any of the two-bit hustlers on here to try their luck in a class room. Farming is hard, I know, but a teachers job is horrendous. I sat at dinner between two, my wife and a friend, you do not want to change jobs. Trust me.

Re: If ya coulda proved me wrong

Hey Hobby, I just got off EWG and that $775,000 was over a 15 year period for the Hartzlers. Your top post does not make that clear.  What would that be and average of around $50k/yr in subsidies? They aren`t exactly BTOs.  My point in comparing what Teachers make to a farmer`s price of corn is, in the market place the farmer is $2.00 per bushel behind the rate of inflation. While Teacher salaries bested inflation two fold. Now given those facts Vicky had zero reason to be "red faced" while some snotty reporter is in a lame attempt to derail her job of straightening out the country.

Re: If ya coulda proved me wrong

Are saying  than it the respondibility of govt to pay you as farmer to maintain your farm and life style!  is that correct.   You know in capitalist economy its supply verus demand  thats what its all about. you choose farming  now don't you have to exccept  those principles or is the govt suppose to support you.   You say 50k a year why should they get anything like you they chose farming now live the ups and downs of it ,other non ag busineses have live without govt support                          I like that "some snoty reporter in a lame attempt to derail her" Hexx she run her nonth about big govt spending and ending it maybe she should lead by example     .  Hate tell you BA if you it know but farm subsidies is govt Spending     Hexx if they elimated DCP, crop ins, and ins co reimfersments  that would be arounfd 15/16 billion of ther now reduced form 100 to 50 billion budget cuts    It would effect only about 1.2 Americans too

Re: If ya coulda proved me wrong

the size of an  acre has not changed since i was in high school and the 140 bpa corn my dad raised on one acre now would be 200+ some years. take that times 6 and and compare. that would be a better comparison. No one is forcing me to keep operating as a farmer. Actually, it somewhat qualifies me the opportunity to join in the witty banter here.  figures lie and liars figure.....
