Re: If ya coulda proved me wrong

Yes, farm income has went up, but that was NO thanks to the price of our commodities keeping up with inflation.  Farm income is up due to the farmers increased productivity. I was in 25-30 students in a class in the 80`s, are there now 45-50?  Not where my kids go to school.

Hobby, probably 5 of those subsidized 15 years the Hartzlers were faced with raising crops below the cost of production.  Subsidies were put in bipartison,  Colin Peterson and Tom Harkin, both Democrats and instrumental in making subsides the way they are. If the Hartzlers broke any laws, I`m sure the way it`s gone over with a fine tooth comb it would come out. If totally eliminating farm subsidies even made a dent in the deficit I`d agree with you but $1.3 trillion against maybe $20 billion farm subsidies?  There are bigger fish to fry but yes when they get around to it they should take an ax to it. So with Vicky being in a business that hasn`t kept up with inflation, she has no reason for a red face.

.....Ya woulda. BTW I wasn`t saying anything negative about teachers so tell your wife to calm down. I was only comparing Farming  to Teaching, two honorable professions. Just that Teachers have fared aliiittle bit better than Farmers in keeping up with inflation.   Smiley Happy

Here, where my kids go to school, the teachers live in the nicest houses in town.  There was a list in the local newspaper that had a listing of what each teacher was paid.....most were way north of $60,000.   I think that the Unions must be quite busy getting their members all the money that they can..... at taxpayer expense.

Teachers are getting nearly what doctors get.... , and without having to pay for malpractice insurance.

Re: If ya coulda proved me wrong

Absolutely Craig, teacher`s have gotten a very, very good return on their union dues. In our school system the teachers are doing a terrific job, as long as they continue I won`t begrudge their being in the top 10% incomes in the community.  However there are schools where the teachers really don`t belong there, they`re only in it for the money.  I do know firing a bad teacher these days takes just short of a act of congress.  We had a teacher/girls coach that had a hard time keeping his hands off 16 yr old girls, the cops got involved still the perv went through all of many avenues to keep his job. Later came out he had been misbehaving for years. In the olden days our remedy would`ve involved a burdizzo clamp and a head gate.  Smiley Happy

Re: If ya coulda proved me wrong

Kinda  funny we bring into play that school teachers as millie says $60,000 and north which was negotiated between school boards and adm no unions present and that terrible in your minds.   but  it perfectly ok to supplement Cong Hartzler farm income as BA says by a average over the years of  $50,000 per year.

If...

teacher salaries went up the same amount as the price of corn has, teacher salaries today would be....drum roll please...$17,000!!  Hobby, try telling a teacher to take $17k /yr  Smiley Very Happy  Make sure you get a good head start.  I do think we`re looking at this wrong, in 1980 corn was $3 and Teacher salaries were $10k.  Today Teacher salaries are $60k...hmmm maybe corn should have went up 6 times as well.....Yeah, I`ll take $18 and bushel for allll the corn you want to buy.  Teachers aren`t over paid Farmers are just under paid.

Re: If ya coulda proved me wrong

It makes no difference whether its repub/ dem spending bill it is just that spending and these new member, Hartzter included,  campaigned on going to Wash and cut the spending  right.   Now if she is going to follow thru on her campaign promises she has to put aside any personal gains and put farm subsidies on the chopping block just like any spending bill.   I shouldn't call it a bill cause it has  turn into a damx every 5 yr renewed entitlment program.......

I don't get any subsidy money, not since the PIK program .... maybe I should run for Congress.... I am as clean as the wind driven snow, eh?    I sure would be making a lot more dough than I am doing hay.
