Reminder of why the EPA is considered so dispicable

No drilling because it MIGHT bother 245 Eskimos.

"Shell has spent five years and nearly $4 billion dollars on plans to explore for oil in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. The leases alone cost $2.2 billion. Shell Vice President Pete Slaiby says obtaining similar air permits for a drilling operation in the Gulf of Mexico would take about 45 days."

"The closest village to where Shell proposed to drill is Kaktovik, Alaska. It is one of the most remote places in the United States. According to the latest census, the population is 245 and nearly all of the residents are Alaska natives. The village, which is 1 square mile, sits right along the shores of the Beaufort Sea, 70 miles away from the proposed off-shore drill site."

“What the modeling showed was in communities like Kaktovik, Shell’s drilling would increase air pollution levels close to air quality standards,”

"At stake is an estimated 27 billion barrels of oil. That’s how much the U. S. Geological Survey believes is in the U.S. portion of the Arctic Ocean. For perspective, that represents two and a half times more oil than has flowed down the Trans Alaska pipeline throughout its 30-year history. That pipeline is getting dangerously low on oil. At 660,000 barrels a day, it’s carrying only one-third its capacity."

What would you expect to gain if it were opened to drilling?

A corporation wants to drill in the arctic tundra harvesting our oil and they will sell it on the world market for profit and we will gain nothing. As it is they will make the profit depleting our resource and probably not pay a dimes taxes on the whole **bleep** works.

Re: Reminder of why the EPA is considered so despicable

It's obvious that you as wise and old as you are still don't understand how the world works.

Any new oil is more oil.  More oil from an American source is going to lower the cost of oil.  The EPA stands in the way of American oil and American prosperity. You and other like you complain about the oil companies profits but how much of their profit is wasted by the government?  It's decisions such as this that raise your cost and mine.

You might want to read http://farmfutures.com/story.aspx/farmers/would/be/hit/hard/by/expanded/epa/jurisdiction/17/48817

You are on their hit list.

The EPA is another left wing governmental body infested with people that care not one whit for our way of life and want the US to be a 3rd world country.  Notice they aren't protecting an advanced society, they are worried about 245 people living in  the stone age 70 some miles from the area of concern.

I don't believe that the quantity of oil is the question.  I don't even believe that the drilling MIGHT upset the natives is the question.  The real question is what happens when the next disaster like last year in the Gulf happens only it happens up there?  Where is closest Coast Guard?  Where are all the volunteers to help clean it up?  Where are the clean up ships that can get through ice?  And an even bigger question, where do you think all that oil will be sold?

NONE of their PROFIT is wasted by the govt that's how much!!  You must not understand what gross and net mean.  I think the EPA is set up to help clean up and keep clean our air and our waters.  The majority of the farmers don't give a whit for sure.

Don, if extra oil added to the world market does not help lower oil prices then why is Obama and the heads of five other countries releasing their oil reserves on to the market?

it is the way the dumocrats and the f uhrer help the middle class--by raising the price of gas and then telling middle class americans we are all for you

Re: Reminder of why the EPA is considered so dispicable

If it costs the same what does it matter if it comes fom ND or Canada. Just as well retain gulf oil and alaskan oil and let the other countries have the pollution. Besides the oil companies haven't exhaustedd the leases they already have. It's about controlling future petroleum assets. That is why oil companies and their lackies strive to have more leases for sale.
