Romney, Ryan and Saving the Golden Goose

If we look ahead to the voters that will decide the trajectory for the next four, eight, or even up to sixteen years of American executive presidential office holdings, it is pretty easy to be pessimistic that a team of politicians promoting austerity have any chance of prevailing.

Social security recipients, disabled or aged, food stamp and welfare people, farmers with subsidies, oil companies, college students, ....all the special interest groups with their own special subsidy or grant........they all have their oxen that they want to keep from being gored. Really hard to find many Americans without some perk or subsidy...homeowners with mortgage writeoffs....might be hard to find someone in America that isn't subsidized....not even getting into Obamacare and other medical assistance programs.

What Romney needs to do, along with Ryan, if Ryan continues to be the idea man for the right or even a possible VP or secretary of the treasury, is to show that we have to rein in spending to preserve any government programs. The half a loaf approach vs. no loaf at all.

To win in November, the right will have to get votes from a sizable percentage of people voting against their own immediate self interest, and that will only be accomplished by promoting the long view, that the policies of a leftist like Barry Soetoro Osama sin Biden will destroy the golden goose that has been the American economy and render all social safety nets into oblivion.

So much of that is more dependant on what the international financial system becomes coming out of the current discombobulation than it is in any political view or election over the next few cycles here in the U.S..

Best an individual who finds himself on top now and is as trepidly fearful of the unkown future as you obviously are might be able to do is to get to work on getting the necessary permits while the government is still functioning to build your self a moat and a drawbridge, take some of those assets that you seem certain will become eroded to the point of being  useless and build it.   And then look at that mass of unemployed returning trained combat soldiers and contractors and put together a little personal security force to stand it.

Headed off to church.  When our liberal pastor declares a time for silent reflection and prayer for the oppressed and troubled in the world I'll offer up an intercession for you.

Re: Romney, Ryan and Saving the Golden Goose

I would definately be happy with a Romney/Ryan ticket, however Ryan has been unjustly demonized just like Palin and Bachmann and Walker(not DaleSmiley Wink).  W Bush was the best that could be elected in these "modern times"  obviously Pat Buchanan would be better but he scared too many "independents" W Bush knew how to walk the line, which is probably why we added $5 Trillion to the debt during his 8 years.  But that is what a man or woman needs to do to get elected to the highest office.  George Will this morning talked about "student loan cheap interest" Obama/Dems want it and the Repubs HAVE TO GO ALONG or they will get shelacked.  Will says "it`s dangerous to extend, because it will never go back to 6.8%" ...this is what happens when the people figure out how to vote access to your backpocket.  I hope and see a little evidence that Romney, once in office will be Reaganesque and talk directly to the American people and explain what needs done and win over their hearts and minds, not just throw money that we don`t have at them. Romney, I believe wants to save America because he would not need this job, he could take his family and fortune anywhere in the world and live like a king without greif.  Ann his Wife said very convincingly "Mitt, I have to know, if you win can you turn this around?"  Romney replied " I can, but it`s getting very late".  I say if one Loves America give Mitt Romney a chance.  Because this is it folks, Obama does what he`s be doing for another year or two we are done, finished..kaput!!

Re: Romney, Ryan and Saving the Golden Goose

yes, the personal attacks on Ryan have been unseemly, but such is the state of American politics.

It is bad that the best we can hope for is a liberal(Romney) that we hope will become more conservative once elected.

But a liberal conservative is a far cry better than someone that holds unamerican views.

Re: Romney, Ryan and Saving the Golden Goose

Thanks for the kind words but you should offer them up to those that will need adequate safety nets in the future. I am doing fine and will do fine for the foreseeable future except for the farm injuries that plague me like I am sure they bother anyone else as active as I try to be.

These days, I think the existential God is holding court and while He may listen, is choosing not to act.

Re: Romney, Ryan and Saving the Golden Goose

Will had an interesting comment on student loans.  He said the average student loan for a student graduating from four years of college is $30,000.  He als said that the average wage of a four college graduate compared to worker with only a high school education is $30,000 more.

Once we see our income taxes raised I'm guessing many recent four year college graduates would rather have had their student loan increased by 3%. then their income tax.

That comparisom would be between the cummulative members of those two demographics that are actually fully employed dag.

More spineology.  Will has become dissapointing in that he's grabbing the craziest and most zany winger stuff.  He used to just defend the WASP meritocricy.

Re: Romney, Ryan and Saving the Golden Goose

Holy shiit, guys! The only thing you guys got right is the subject line! A Romney/Ryan plan WILL save the golden gooses of the wealthy, and the people who don't need it. What ARE YOU THINKING?? If you want sneak peek at austerity, one only needs to look across the pond, come on, really? I'll stick with what we've got, I'd rather go "Forward" than go back to the fokking ditch we just got out of. Now is not the time to go back, and nothing out of the Mittsters mouth, or Ryan sounds any different from the Dumya and Chief. It's another Red Herring from the GOP.

Re: Romney, Ryan and Saving the Golden Goose

I'm willing to bet that a clear majority of those students graduating with a four year degree will pay more in increased income taxes in the next 5 years then they will in increased student loan payments.  Plus the student payments will end when paid off while increased income taxes will stick around for a lot longer.

My thought is if we are truly concerned about saddling these young college grads with more financial burden via 3% higher interest on their student loans then we should also mention what their increased financial burden will be via higher income taxes.

Re: Romney, Ryan and Saving the Golden Goose

Will isn`t saying "winger stuff" as Bruce is saying.  Student loans are cheap at 3% or 6% to these hippsters.  These hippsters have 20% credit card debt, 8% new car loan, this is the way it works, I know I`ve kind of been there:  You make minimum payments on what you can, when you dig yourself out of the hole you pay-off the highest interest debt first.  To a hippster that student loan debt will be the last bill paid on the totem-pole cause it`s cheap interest.  The generation that supported Obama (18-35) have their priorities out of whack.  Applebees is always full, The Avengers  and Hunger Games or whatever hot movie is packed, girls wear $100 Silver jeans, concerts are sold out and packed, people got money for flat screens, high priced computers, cable tv...to live beyond their means that way of course they`re going to have credit card debt and student loans repayment is on the backburner.  And if Sugar Daddy Obama forgives or gives cheap interest he`ll get their vote.  When I was a kid, my folks were rich but we didn`t live that way, we heated and cooked with mostly wood, going to McDonalds was a real treat and "don`t order pop it`s cheaper at the grocery store!!".  Back then we lived within our means, today these babies want to have their "toys" and send the tab to the taxpayer.
