Re: Are you that dense Knappy?

What is this???   "...you act like such a jerk."

I forgot, you don't like ANYONE telling you what to do.

Knapper: "You should go sit on your hands and let other people do something nice for our active duty soldiers since your made up Jesus thinks this is wrong."

Maybe not, But in typing that line, he was certainly acting like one

FYI

I could not watch the video because my network does not allow it so I went by the description of it that was posted there which reads:

"In this speech, Jesus talks about the importance of giving to the needy without broadcasting that you are doing so. The key is to make sure that you do your good deeds [for the needy] secretly. Jesus calls those who help the needy, and widely broadcast they are doing so at the same time, hypocrites. The only way we can learn humility and the true meaning of giving [again, to the needy] is by doing so secretly so that only us (and God) are aware of the deed."

Who among you feels that having some corporation (for free on your behalf) send what basically amounts to nice, but unnecessary promotional items that include branded sunglasses, socks, beef jerky, magazines and "tons of swag" giving to the needy?

I submit that this is not about giving to the needy and never was. I thought it was just something nice to do. Just a little gesture and a way to relieve a little boredom on a ship or in an office or maybe even a bunker somewhere. No more...no less.

Lets do a little exercise here.

The paragraph you just quoted said this:

"In this speech, Jesus talks about the importance of giving to the needy without broadcasting that you are doing so. The key is to make sure that you do your good deeds secretly. Jesus calls those who help the needy, and widely broadcast they are doing so at the same time, hypocrites. The black bold words are the operative ones in this sentence, Knapper. Proof of that is the red highlighted bold words following because they clarify further what the paragraph is about. Not to mention the rest of the paragraph. You seem to be keying in on the "needy" part but that was not the jist of BA's post nor the link BA provided.

In fact, his link was exactly the opposite of what you wrote at the end of your reply to BA which was: "You should go sit on your hands and let other people do something nice for our active duty soldiers since your made up Jesus thinks this is wrong."

I had the same feelings as BA to your 2nd posting. My thought was "Is this guy looking for accolades"? or is he disappointed that there weren't any "Rah! Rah!" postings following the original post? I wasn't sure. Then you jumped him for something you obviously took wrong. Then to top it off, you tried to belittled him with your biggoted remark about his religeous beliefs.

Now I am sure

And PS:

Knapper wrote:I submit that this is not about giving to the needy and never was. I thought it was just something nice to do. Just a little gesture and a way to relieve a little boredom on a ship or in an office or maybe even a bunker somewhere. No more...no less.

You contradict yourself by saying it wasn't about the needy but then you say it's a gesture to relieve boredom. Is that not a need?

Re: FYI

Well, think what you wish because I disagree with much of what you have written. We have a completely different views of what the paragraph was about and I don't think there will be any resolution. I explained myself just fine, as did you. Whatever you want to think is ok with me and I am glad you are sure.
