My wife has gotten interested in Law and Order UK on BBC.

Question that arose, do the lawyers in Canada (and Australia) get to wear wigs?

You bet they do. It is one of the most ridiculous relics of the British empire which still exist in this country. You would have to question why they need such a disgusting flea ridden patch to have them taken seriously.
