So if you happen to be
an incurious fellow of average intelligence who wants the government to keep giving you- but nobody else- free stuff and don’t want to pay taxes or be regulated, fair enough.
The problem is when you let somebody fill your head with ideological hoohaw that you’re some kind of high minded patriot and Old Testament patriarch.

Re: So if you happen to be
Learning about WWII in grade school social studies, one question many of us white skinned, some with German surnames wondered was how our distant cousins could follow a maniac, be a party to atrocities. Then reading the Bible 30 years ago, "why will people follow the antichrist?" . The more gray hairs I get, the more tv news I watch, all of Bible prophesy couldn`t be more easy to understand, it`s unfolding before our eyes.

Re: So if you happen to be
I went through a year or two of that in HS after a friend gave me a copy of The Late, Great Planet Earth.
Then I grew up, and gave up childish things.

Re: So if you happen to be
I`ve heard of the book you mentioned, but had to google to get the skimmed version of Cliff Notes on it. Okay, it`s about "the rapture" good song by Blondie, however rapture isn`t Biblical. Some crazy woman in in the 1800s had a whacked out dream and Scofield made it "biblical". There isn`t gonna be a "rapture"...yeah the antichrist is gonna fool ya to "fly away with me" and many will (are) deceived.

Trying to find the Sagan quote from 1996 about people falling back into superstition and ignorance.

Re: "Fall back into superstition and ignorance"? From all appearances ....
"Fall back into superstition and ignorance"? From all appearances, they never rose up out of their superstition & ignorance. They wallow in it like hogs in mud.
When I was a boy, I raised a few pigs, pastured them outside in the summer on sod. I would make a wallow on purpose for them to cool off in. From all appearances, they enjoyed it immensely.

A shame you didn`t continue raising hogs that way, Rick. Now that pork commands a premium.

Your pigs must not have been much if they couldn't make their own wallow.

Re: No, the pigs did the digging.... but now ...
No, the pigs did their own digging, I just added some water. But now that you remind me, by some incredible act of fifty-year premonition, I did name them 3020 & Edmond.
