Socialism

But of course those following your dear leader will not admit it, even to themselves.

Up to $150 /acre and that is US$ probably borrowed from China.

Re: Socialism

you have a record of complaining about the USA and it's President.

Perhaps you don't realize that our country has 10 times the population of your country.

Our problems are not small.  While there are cute little experiments in other types of government it's the type of government that we had for two centuries that has provided the most wealth for the most people.

And while you promote your failing health care system (wait & wait) we have Medicare and Medicaid which in reality is socialized medicine for millions.  I've not read any news articles nor even seen CNN try to show millions of United States citizens dying for lack of health care.

It would be interesting to see you post some of the great success stories of you fatherland.  How about it, show us your success stories, show us the great life of your people and yourself.

Re: Socialism

"socialism" is a word thrown around and everyone has their own idea if the inkblot shown is "socialism" or not.  I would say look that politicians and countries that admit and are proud to be called "socialist" and what programs do they support.

In the past some have argued that "roads and bridges are socialist, so you might as well accept full blown socialism in all other aspects of society".  I guess that is the same argument of "If the doctor says one pill a day for 1 month will cure me...I`ll swallow the whole bottle of 30 pills and get better in one day!" ...No, you`ll kill yourself! there is such a thing as moderation and common sense.

The way i judge a program is: is it permanent? ...Social Security is permanent and pretty much mandatory, there for it is "socialist" however a part from being a Ponzi scheme that will eventually implode, without it we`d have 100 million old people starving in the gutter.  Therefore, it`s less damaging to continue than ending cold turkey.

Proposed free healthcare and free college?  We already have free healthcare for hardup people...Medicare, University hospitals will carve on you for the practice or just show up at the hospital front door and they have to take care of you and just don`t pay your bill.   But an official free healthcare would be mandatory taxpayers footing the bill for illegal aliens getting their toenails trimmed by a doctor that would make the same wage as a plumber.

Free college?  That would hit the taxpayer`s pocketbook in a mandatory fashion and very few 18yr olds are "college material" if you want to be honest about it.  It would retard their incentive to grow up and be responsible at $20,$30,000/yr with the taxpayer paying while they "find themselves".

Farm programs?  They aren`t mandatory (yet, Harkin tried in the 80`s) , the farmer has to jump through hoops to be eligible, if an acre of production is paid for the farmer has to have that acre of production, it isn`t "free money".  You can opt out of the program.  The nation`s cheap food policy of fencerow to fencerow got us in this predicament, therefore it is reasonable for the government to try and make the farmer whole.  If the farmer didn`t swing for the bleachers every year on production, there would be occasional empty grocery store shelves like we see in admitted "socialist countries".

Did I complain? Thought it was just pointing out how your government was going to pay up to $150 an acre to offset the costs of the trade war that your dear leader started.

Perhaps you don't realize that our country has 10 times the population of your country.

Yes i did know that. So what?

Our problems are not small.  While there are cute little experiments in other types of government it's the type of government that we had for two centuries that has provided the most wealth for the most people.

I did know that you had lots of big problems and I also realize that the government you have now has increased the wealth of those who were already wealthy. But I do not think it raised the wealth of the average worker.

And while you promote your failing health care system (wait & wait) we have Medicare and Medicaid which in reality is socialized medicine for millions.  I've not read any news articles nor even seen CNN try to show millions of United States citizens dying for lack of health care.

Interesting that you think our health care system is failing when any poll does show that Canadians do NOT want together rid of it. Also EVERYONE in Canada has health care, probably more than is good for them in many cases, while I understand that millions in your country do not have care except for emergency and then they will hound them to pay for that forcing lots into bankruptcy. Indeed my 'experience' with your care is an acquaintance who was sending $10,000 to his brother who lived in your country AND each of his 8 other siblings were doing the same because the US brother's wife was ill. They had already lost their house to pay medical bills and as the acquaintance said 'we have free health care so our family in Canada is helping them out.  Now tell me again which system is failing. Of course for profit insurance companies do not make money in Canada.

It would be interesting to see you post some of the great success stories of you fatherland.  How about it, show us your success stories, show us the great life of your people and yourself.

And I think I just posted of the great success of health care in Canada so how about the way people of diverse cultures, religions and skin colour live side by side not in 'white neighbourhoods' and 'black neighbourhoods'.  That is a great success story in this tribal world than many live in.

Re: Socialism

Dunno, but $75/acre in Stormy payoff around these parts.

Unlike her unfortunate experience, I don't detect a bad taste in my mouth.

Re: Socialism

So there are many different interpretations of the word 'socialism' but at the root of it is government being involved in a business and looking after its citizens rather than 'capitalism' where businesses thrived on their own and went broke and quit when they could not make money.

So farmers who need up to $150/ac from the government to stay in business are indulging in 'socialism' rather than the much ballyhooed 'capitalism' that some posters on here keep venting about.

Who said we needed $150/acre from the government to stay in business?

Re: Socialism

Well it's bad. It is a transfer of wealth from the poor to rich big time operators. A national disgrace. Just more socialism and socialism ALWAYS fail. You don't have to be efficient if socialism always bails you out. Sleep in. Wait for the check. Don't have to worry about some young buck taking the land from you because the system is rigged in your favor.
