People are upset cause it`s ineffective and stupid

On the Steve Dace show he proposed a senario of a terrorist calling a cab to pickup his luggage at a hotel. The cabbie would deliver the bags in the middle of a busy airport. The terrorist would then detonate the bomb ladened bags remotely. All with the same effect of blowing up a airplane, causing death, destruction and fear. The TSA giving women a gyno exam and stripping little white kids is a waste of time and money. The terrorists are laughing their arses off at how we`re running around like headless chickens. The wire tapping on the other hand may actually gather some usefull information.

Re: Still not sure about why so many are upset about body scanners

I don't like it because it's government creep upon our rights. The fear mongering that started this by Bush and company also led to the illegal wiretapping, that coincidentally was made legal after the fact and is still happening. The problem is that republicans loved it while there was a republican in office, but hate it when there's not. Those policies and actions are there for every following president, republican or democratic.

I also don't like that there is "implied consent" to the pat-downs and electronic screenings and only found that out recently when someone refused to allow the pat-down and may be criminally charged. I feel as though it's an illegal search that's camouflaged by the implied consent when you purchase the ticket.

I could go on about the safety of the electronic screening machines, and we will only know the effects after some frequent use by people like pilots and stewardesses. But, by far the biggest problem is that I refuse to succumb to the fear mongering and be treated like one of the herd being led to slaughter. If you factor in the probability of a terrorist incident versus engine or equipment malfunction or failure, birds and/or geese, along with the most dangerous place in the whole traveling chain of events and places is the airport, not the plane. Also, you're more likely to be injured or killed DRIVING TO OR FROM the airport.

It's funny now that the people that WANTED those measures and chastised ANYBODY who didn't agree with them, NOW want to get rid of them.

I can't understand what rights are you talking about?  Don't I have a right to fly safe if I want to fly?  But you don't care about that?  I don't know anyway else to protect the flying public and thousands on the ground without some sort of searching at airports.  Maybe the next time the underwear will go off rather than just smoke.  The pilots and crew don't have to go through the scanner just the metal detector.  They are flying the plane.  The arguments about it is more dangerous driving to the airport than flying is ridiculous.  Most of these people are the ones who wanted all sorts of measurements for security and agreed to take away many of our rights to privacy in this country with the patriot act but NOW they are the ones screaming the loudest.  I just don't get it.

Re: Still not sure about why so many are upset about body scanners

You have every right to safety and security when flying just like everyone else, including me. The problem is that the security measures aren't consistent or uniform throughout the world. Take the underwear bomber and that flight, we now know that he was allowed on that flight by security or government personnel from where that flight originated. His passport, or lack thereof, was an issue, and nobody could fly all over Europe like he did before 9/11 much less after. So, what good are those measures if we are the only country to implement them, considering that there were Americans on that flight and at great risk?

I also think that the airport is far more dangerous than any flight. The lack of measures to gain entry to it along with the massive numbers of people make it a bigger target. Then there is the issue that the TSA is the least trained and skilled of all the federal law enforcement agencies, and the silly version of the hokey-pokey and other measures is what I consider to be a joke, considering how well airport employees and employees of companies at airports like Lockheed are screened and checked.

I choose not to fly, and won't ever again unless it's on a one-way flight out of this country for good. I made that decision for numerous reasons of safety, and not just the ones we're talking about now.
