Re: The Reason is...
For all practical purposes the policies of both parties on this matter have been the same. Neither the classical progressives on the fringes of the left and the hard money, Austrian economics disciples on the fringes of the right have had a thing to say about policy. Just make noise that agitate each other, leaving the theives to their business.
The internet and the spectacular and outlandsh activities of the teabagger faction have made it appear that the extreme factions on the right side have more influence on how the greater GOP would actually govern if it were to acheive total power but, again, for all practical purposes Bush is Cllinton is Bush is Obama. Or better.....,Baker is Rubin is Paulson is Geithner.

Re: The Reason is...
You are assuming, Polaris, that things won't be completely turned around by Jan 1 or next week. You can't deny that a few short days ago, there was a record high. Now there is a low. So, what kind of "policy" makes for that? Gambling and greed is the Wall Street policy just like I already said. You should change your argument to some other made up thing like "Conservatives will bring about stability and reduce the swings in favor of steady, predictible growth that will increase confidence in investment." How'd that sound?

Re: The Reason is...
I understand the mantras. I could write script for either party. Most can't because of blinders and closed minds. What I believe to be the truth is a different matter, but until a time when money and special interest is not the voice of Congress, what does it matter?

Re: Stock market tanking?
The soil is still there whether it is worth 10 K per acre or 1 K. That is the good thing about not being a seller. It really don't matter what its worth as long as it throws off income.
BTW I've been the stock market route and I am exceedingly inept at that. After dropping a bunch in my Ira I cashed in and invested in my farm. I should have done that a couple years sooner. Probably not the markets fault and possible not my brokers fault even though he made the recomendations. Probably, my personality isn't right to function in that market.

Re: Stock market tanking?
As upset as you seem to be, as genuinely serious as this is, the only thing I can imagine that might upset you more would be if the Fed and the ECB were to act to avert or offset a really big dump.
