Re: Land does not have to cahnge hands BA
Congress does not need to raise taxes.` The foolish tax cuts will expire all by themselves.
After you pay the debt off we will cut taxes.

Re: Straight up progressive proposal to chew on
Sam....I kept thinking back to this post of yours as I was watching Freidman on the ABC roundtable. So went to NYT and read the column he was talking about and then came here and found your post.
Not looking for total agreement from any party here, but he was alluding to some of the same things you say, to some degree:
And FWIW I'm not so sure we suffer from lack of production but rather from where our productive efforts are focused....and maybe that's what you meant when you said "get the production back". I don't think many have much of an idea at to just how much seed corn is being eaten as people look to cope.

Kraft said....."Congress does not need to raise taxes".....
There may be hope for you yet. You finally said something that made sense.
That debt you speak of has more of your parties finger prints on it then the republicans.

Re: Straight up progressive proposal to chew on
First, we need to get ourselves back on a sustainable path to economic growth and reindustrialization, with whatever sacrifices, hard work and political consensus that requires.
Don't you remember Bruce that Freidman was a major champion of globalism? Someone needs to kick him in the testes.

Re: Straight up progressive proposal to chew on
Of course I do. I'm on record as not agreeing with his views on it. You knew that. Why do you do that?
But...whatever... after he's been kicked, would it then be OK to consider what he's saying and comment on it? It's alot like what you said. I appreciate transormation and even the occasional epiphany. Just not all that vindictive by nature. But I guess you must be.

Re: BA those taxes WILL be paid
BA there is one thing for sure that your post points out.
That is that in order to 'enjoy' your assets that are tied up you have to cash them in and pay the tax. I know of at least 2 farmers locally who went to great effort each year to bury any profits so they did not have to pay tax.
When they tried to cut back they could not without exposing the profits to tax so they kept increasing assets and doing without those 'nice, fun things' you mention.
Death finally left the widows to cash it in and pay the tax.
It would have been so much better for them to have paid a little tax each year and stay to a lower tax bracket.
BTW I would go to Bermuda instead of Hawaii but I do not want to sell and not be able to plant again.
Hope to have a better day tomorrow now that I know where the wasp nest is/was.

Re: Straight up progressive proposal to chew on
The real UE rate in the 4-5 counties around here is in the 25% range. Empty houses all over, empty factories too. You'd want to kick him.

Re: Straight up progressive proposal to chew on
Reaistic unemployment not a lot better anywhere. One you cross a certain level it probably doesn't make alot of difference. "Who you are" has been changed. We could all be doomed to become Flint or Allentown or some other like place. That's been like where you are noe for a long, long. The country is running out of space uder the rug,
Homes being demolished and buried at a much faster rate than built in this part of the world. And hundreds of homes for sale that won't sell until they get down to 15 centson the dollar, if at all. Not at all if there never are any labor opportunities and that appears to be a very remote posiblity.
Only thing veiling the depression here is farmers and landlords absolutely swathed and rolling in money.
