Re: Strike it down!

"I suppose you think liability insurance for cars and seat belts are also unconstitutional".

Don't compare apples with orangesbart. Operating a motorvehicle on a public highway is totally different than how the ER manages their operations in a private hospital.

I don't buy it as being constitutional forcing all Americans to buy into a health insurance plan just so the healthy can support the sick. Sorry, it won't fly. What is in place now is fine. Guys like you who have paid your monthly dues have excellent coverage, Guys like me have hospital paid coverage after I pay the ugly deductable, and the poor folks get it free in the ER. Been working in the past, and will continue to work. How do you think the poor can pay those $5k/yr premiums anyway should natl health coverage ever become law? They will still be worked on for free. Nothing will change there, but guys like me will be trapped into paying 150% or more for coverage We don't need

Re: Strike it down!

The Democrats took a poorly calculated risk in passing Obamacare without any Republican support. Sure they got it through but they have zero politcal cover, they can`t say "Well the the Repubs voted for it too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". What it boils down to Schnurrbart is if Obamacare had 70% approval, we wouldn`t be having this discussion, Obamacare would be chiseled in granite.  Did the Dems really think the anger at the townhall meetings was just "manufactured, astro-turf, bagger"???  Well my friend the anger about messing with healthcare is very real. All the Dems that fell on their swords last November won`t go unnoticed by current Dem Senators.  As to your premiums go down in adding insurees` that would be true in they were cream of the crop. In this case to make it affordable to them everyone`s rates will have to go up and they could no longer choose to opt out under Obamacare. Yeah, insurance companies will insure anything .....for a price, especially with captive clients.

Re: Strike it down!

Republicans were NOT shut out of the debate. They had 15 months to wrestle with that issue and they chose to be obstructionists instead of working for a solution. Did you not see those jackasses fight over the most trivial segments and sometimes won the concessions and still would not support the bill.

They had only one objective which was to make the bill as unpalitable as they could to prevent it from happening. They don't want health insurance reform. Not now ,not ever!

So don't act like they were deprived of a voice. They had plenty of opportunities and chose to say NO!

Re: what new premiums? From guys like me

They will extract at least another 150% yearly premium cash dollars from healthy guys like me that don't need all that coverage. The poor will still get free medical care thru ER's, just there will be even more money sloshing thru the medical insurance coverage from guys like me.

I don't like it one bit. I think it is another form of a tax on the healthy folks and young..It should go down

Re: Strike it down!

By your own admission, you state children that may be unfortunate enought to have a pre-existing condition and can't be covered.  Well, it's not just children.  It's people of all ages that have pre-existing conditions.  Okay, you say they don't have covereage now.  Under Obamacare, they will have covereage.  Great, now let's get to the math here.  Pre-existing conditions mean they will require more care over their lifetime on average than a person without them.  Trust me, insurance companies have all kinds of statistical data to back this up.  It's just like people who speed, get DUI's, have accidents, etc. have a higher likelihood of a claim than someone with a clean driving record.  Again, insurance companies have all kinds of statistical data to prove this.  So by adding all those with pre-existing conditions, how can you honestly look someone in the face and tell them their insurance cost will go down?  It can't happen.  The children with pre-existing conditions has kicked in.  Insurance premiums have already gone up as mine jumped nearly 30 percent.  What happens when all adults with pre-existing conditions get added to the pool?  I'm betting my premium goes up a lot more than 30 percent once again.

Also, I wouldn't be knocking these so called cat. policies as you call them.  People with high deductibles and low premiums choose these policies because in most cases they are adding money annually to their health savings accounts to cover the small costs.  Within a year, they have enough money in these HSA's to cover their deductible.  By adding what I put into my HSA and my premium for my health insurance, I paid roughly $4000 less than my neighbor of similar age with the same number of dependants covered the first two years because he chooses to have a $500 deductible while I choose a $5000 deductible.  Now that I have built up enough in my HSA to cover my deductible for three years, I'm paying $9000 less than he is for that $500 deductible.  Once Obamacare goes totally into place, I will be dropping my health insurance.  There will be absolutely zero reason for me to keep it as I can simply buy it in the event I ever need it.  I'd venture to guess that every hospital will have at least one if not several health insurance agents on staff to sell insurance as people come into get care.  What do you suppose happens to rates then when all the healthy people drop out of the pool as the penalty will be far cheaper than buying health insurance?

It's all but comical to see how we're trying to go to a socialized healthcare system as England is trying to get away from a socialized healthcare system.  A part of me hopes Obamacare sticks because I'll more than likely get a chuckle when all those who work for someone else lose their employer paid health insurance because the company will save money by paying the penalty.  Then, employees will finally get their eyes opened to the real monetary benefit they once received via having their health insurance paid for by their employer.

Re: what new premiums? From guys like me

The whole concept of insurance is to pass off risk from one individual to a pool of policy holders. It's the same with car insurance, health insurance or life insurance. The cost  benefits are passed off to the pool. I would much rather pay for part of your colonostophe than need one for myself. The reason I am so willing is because nI know you will help me should I be so unfortunate to need examination or treatment.

150% increase in premiums will happen whether we have reform or not. The only way to avoid it is medicare for all. Yes we will pay for it through our taxes but there will not need to be a back door policy of passing others costs on to you.

The largest possible pool of healthy and sick policy holders all paying something versus million not paying anything and ending up on our health care tab. Plus those poor health insurance companies raking off excessive profits after they skim off any imaginary item that they can deduct.

I think those with medical savins account are in for a rude awakening as they age and become victims to chronic ailments. It's not unusual for a family to have more than one accident or illness in one year and more than one deductable. I don't know what provision they have for copays but $1000 per month plus $5000 deductables could be a bit spendy. I know the premiums are lower but they are buying less protection and passing off less risk.

Re: Strike it down!

Yes. Medicare for all is much better. Perhapos we cannot make you buy private health insurance but we can tax you to pay for medicare. A much better deal all around. Oh! That's right, you don't want to pay taxes either.

Re: Strike it down!

The caterwalling about not having a say in the Healthcare bill is completely bogus.

How about them republican amendments to Obama’s health care bill?
kayinmaine, on July 20, 2009, at 6:26 pm

Have you heard any neocons lately saying the republicans have been completely shut out of the health care bill talks and that the hole process has been going too fast for them to find time to golf and they’re feeling like an outsider? Well, they were lying as usual!

From Slate:

That said, some context: Of the 788 amendments filed, 67 came from Democrats and 721 from Republicans. (That disparity drew jeers that Republicans were trying to slow things down. Another explanation may be that they offered so many so they could later claim—as they are now, in fact, claiming—that most of their suggestions went unheeded.) Only 197 amendments were passed in the end—36 from Democrats and 161 from Republicans. And of those 161 GOP amendments, Senate Republicans classify 29 as substantive and 132 as technical.

Here’s a sampling of the republican amendments added to Obama’s health care bill (Slate provided a link to the EXCEL FILE in the 2nd paragraph for our viewing, so have fun! Be sure to click on the picture below so you can read the republican amendments better too!):

Holy cripes! No wonder the republicans are up in arms about Obama’s health care bill……IT’S MAINLY A RIGHT WINGER’S HEALTH CARE BILL! Scary. Maybe we should all rethink this bill, because if the Cro Magnon’s of America are mainly behind it, then we know we won’t reach wheel-inventing-status at any point in the future! We will be going backwards in time! Of course, President Obama has stated that he will not sign any health care bill that adds to the de..., but even if the current bill doesn’t do that, then I think maybe he could use this republican health care bill as an out anyway for vetoing! Might be a good thing. I had no idea how polluted this bill truly is. Wow.

We all know what will happen in the end, though. The republicans will stink up the bill so much….even they won’t sign on to it in the end. Why? ‘Cause they’re wimpy losers who hate American citizens to the point they don’t care if they add an amendment taking all rights away from all of us in a health care bill! What we can call this bill is ‘republican socialism’. See? Nice ring to it!
