Re: I read $5,000/yr

That's bs bart and if you would think about it you would agree. The link says a family with a $33,500 income would save $9,900 in premiums and another $5,000 in tax credits. Well, I will tell you there is no family with only a $33.500 income can afford to pay $9,900 in health premiums in a policy. That is pure bull hockey and you know it.

It does say the avg premium paid is $7300/yr, and with the new universal health care policy a savings of $2,300 would be realized, which would put it back at that $5,000'yr premium cost which is what I read in another article, whick I cannot recall where, But is 150% more than what my present cat policy is costing me.

You made a rational assessment of how Obamacare will work in the real world. I doubt that Obama knows much about that place, nor do his advisors.

Wouldn't a family making $33,5000 already qualify for subsidized health care?  Here in Iowa and I'm guessing most other states they would be getting free health care for their children including dental and optometry services all for free.

I don't see how giving over 16.6 million workers tax credits to buy insurance saves money as it looks more like cost shifting to me with the tax payers picking up the tab and the insurance companies still getting rich.  I agree with Bill Maher who is a bigger supporter of the new health reform.  Maher says he does not believe it will lower costs and believes it will end up raising costs for most working folks.

Re: Re:yellow no. 2-or not so great

GTO, you wrote,

"That, my man is one of the coldest hearted, meanest, unChristian statments of all time. We need to start a non-Kudos contest, you'd be head of the class! Shame on you!"

You then followed it up in your next post with,

"Go play in your feces like the good little monkey."

I'm confused why you even post such garbage?  Do think it adds to the conversation in any meanful way?

Re: Strike it down!

4wd, I can't believe you just wrote what you did. Do you believe your invincible? I hope for your sake you stay healthy and accident free, until your 100. I worked on a farm, milked cows, ground feed, baled hay, picked corn,(with picker, and a combine). I have all 10 fingers and all 10 of my toes, but I was not with out health problems. Many, many trips to the chiropractor, fell though a floor we were tearing down, to a cement floor, 2 hernia operations, not to mention bronchitis problems( musty oat dust), and that doesn't include my kids and my wife! So congratulations, I hope the bubble you've built around yourself and your family never breaks, because if it does you $5000 deductible is going to eat you alive.

Re: Strike it down!

I doctor too much?  I'm sure you would rather us old farts just die off.  I see a radiation oncologist twice a year, a heart specialist once a year and an endocrinologist twice a year with blood tests and other examinations.  I also see a family Dr. once a year for an annual check up and when I need a new refill on meds I have to see the dr to get that done.  Plus living in the skin cancer capital of the world, I see a dermotologist once a year.  I also see a rheumatologist once a year.  Getting old isn't for sissies fellow!  99% of what I see a dr for is because of something I have already encountered and am now trying to keep it from coming back and catching it early if it does.  So take your "doctoring too much" and stick it!

That your confused does seem to be one of your problems. They weren't posted in the same thread as I recall.

Re: I read $5,000/yr

I'm pretty sure that you folks will get your wish and as I said earlier, that great!  I really do hope it tanks.  It isn't going to matter to me one way or another in any way that I will readily see.  My taxes may go up a little but my health care isn't going to change.  There won't be any changes to either of my policies.  I can't wait to see how much y'all brag about much you are paying like it is a badge of honor.  Good luck!

Re: I read $5,000/yr

It actually said:

"Premiums more than doubled, rising by over $7,500 for the average family with employer-sponsored insurance.  Average cost of my insurance with an employer paid insurance. "

That means that the total premium was increased by over $7500 during the time span they quoted.  The family didn't have to pay all of that.  My insurance when I was working cost right at $900/mo but my employer paid about $800 of that.

Re: Strike it down!

Like I said you and bart doctor too much. You go in for a check-up and blood draw, do you think they will NOT find something? Remember, they have BIG payments to make on their toys. And their toys are nicer than ours.

`I go yearly for a DOT physical, and that is that. Still cost me $150.00 for nothing, and you can believe I always let them know it isn't right, but, I have to drive my truck, soooo. Otherwise, I would stay away unless I broke something. You guys need to remember, the doctor makes his living treating sick people, and if everyone was healthy, or would stay away and let their own bodies heal themselves, Doctors would not have the money to buy their nice toys. I think the ugly high deductable on my cat health policy may be a benefit to me in more ways than financial.

`BTW, I did have a discussion with a dr in one of his honest moments, and he said we all carry cancer cells in our bodies. Just takes some external action such as job stress, alcahol, cigs, betchy wife, financial troubles to trigger it into a life threatening disease. So, STAY HAPPY in life and you will live long and prosper.
