Re: Tanks and planes to Egypt? Paid for by the American taxpayer?

The deal wasn't cut in 2010!  It started a long time before that.  Good interactive map of our foreign aid.

I knew we gave aid to allies.

I just didn't know the current Egyptian government, was an ally of ours.

To clarify, I heard on the news on the radio, that this particular deal (for the F-16s and Abrams tanks), was struck in 2010, not aid in general.

It's not strange most Americans aren't aware of foreign  policy, they are occupied and distracted with circus and a small piece of the spoils of Empire.

There are certain lowlife who want to create a religious war and have their dupes parroting their war propaganda.   It really hasn't anything to do with religion, so than a large number of pseudo 'religious' people are xenophobes, easily manipulated by their ignorance, hateful fear and loathing to serve as cannon fodder.  It's been that way through out man's history and will continue as long as the powerful can keep them dumbed down.

Sounds a bit paranoid.  You might want to check into the nearest loony bin.

Re: Tanks and planes to Egypt? Paid for by the American taxpayer?

What I could find was this deal brokered by this admin in 2010 but it was to Saudi Arabia and it was not a "give away but a $30 billion SALE.  I couldn't get any of the article to copy but here is the link.

I also found this:

"Egypt purchased $6.5 billion worth of arms between 2001 and 2004. By comparison, Israel spent $4.4 billion. Egypt now has some of the most sophisticated U.S.-made weapons, including Abrams tanks, F-16 fighter planes, and Apache attack helicopters."

Notice the word "purchased".

One more thing.  We give them aid for sure.  Have for many years.  However, they give part of that aid money back to us in payment for these weapons.  From what I read, the deal for this last bunch of F-16s was cut in Dec., 2009 and was stalled until last year.

On December 24th, 2009 the US signed a contract with Egypt for the delivery of 20 new F-16s under the known Peace Vector series. Notification to Congress already happened last October, so everything is ready to finalise this deal. With this new order the number of F-16s delivered to Egypt raises to 240. Although Egypt has a large fleet of GE powered block 40s, the new deal compromises PW powered block 52 versions. The order compromises 16 C-models and 4 D-models.

Where the money came from

The U.S. government ordered the planes for Egypt from Lockheed Martin in 2010, as part of an annual aid package that regularly topped $1 billion. But the very next year, a popular revolution began which ultimately resulted in Mubarak's ouster and imprisonment, and the election of Morsi, a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood. In November, Morsi tried to claim dictatorial powers, but was forced to back down from his claim after massive protests against the move.

Perhaps you should learn some history from reading, instead of sitting on your brain in front of TVs.
