The History Boys
Third or fourth time I've posted this. But for those who think that their fast and loose ideological take on history justifies their disingenuous motives (and people who don't believe that don't know what the 4th of July is).
"In the twilight of his presidency, George W. Bush and his inner circle have been feeding the press with historical parallels: he is Harry Truman—unpopular, besieged, yet ultimately to be vindicated—while Iraq under Saddam was Europe held by Hitler. To a serious student of the past, that's preposterous. Writing just before his untimely death, David Halberstam asserts that Bush's "history," like his war, is based on wishful thinking, arrogance, and a total disdain for the facts."
Re: The History Boys
Lot's of different ways to play The History Game.
For instance if you believe that the Cold War was primarily about the failure to let Patton invade the SU and it only ended because a Real Man finally stood up to them, then the notion of Trump playing Bull in a China Shop with the Atlantic alliance makes perfect sense.
