Re: definition
Segments are but in totality no. We struggle today to fit things into defined categories, but economies and laws evolve as a mix. In the USA the roads are mostly socialized, health insurance is fascist, ag is best defined as neocorporatist.

Re: Socialism
Socialism is fine for the leaders who tell the people where to form the line.

Re: The Ugly Face of Socialism
just keep cashing those socialist govt farm checks... the tipping point began with programs like farm subsidies began. its welfare at its worse money to people who don't need it.
nonfarm taxpayers have to support themselves but also support those in production agriculture. someone doesn't know how to manage their money.
have a good year the taxpayers have your back.
one tax point, can't deduct my new lawn mower after leaving the farm. its not consider a required farm implement.

Re: The Ugly Face of Socialism
Crop insurance distorts the whole economics....the big farmers around here are planting April 11th, the first day of coverage, not for the market that exists, but to make sure they get everything planted for the revenue guarantees.
And if they have to replant, they get paid to do that. If Farmers and their lenders had to pony up the cost of expensive inputs on replants, they would keep the seed dry a few weeks longer.
Did you move to town?

Re: Socialism
Got a Chevy Silveraro. Love it. Has a V8. It has nothing to do with the fact that in our great nation, we have some super great Socialist elements. We do not have a Socialistic form of Governance however, and that's good. Some folks just hate to admit there are some parts of Socialism that work great in a Capitalistic Democracy. I reckon they are either in denial or scared weenies.

Re: Socialism
3020, you are a reasonably intelligent person. It sounds to me like you are tucking your head in the sand and pretending that in our Capitalistic Democracy, there are absolutely no elements of Socialism that work. Don't be scared my friend, we do not have a Socialist governing structure. It's in the constitution. Check it out, you'll see. In the meantime, fear no library or public road or park or navigation system on rivers or the military or even some monument in some public square. It's all socialistic, but it will be OK, trust me.

Re: Socialism
Knapper, today we can't even lay a pipe line. None of the infrastructure you so tout would be possible under today's socialism. If socialism is so good there would be no need for mandates.

Re: Socialism
You made the error of saying "Under Socialism." We are a Capitalistic Democracy. There is no Socialist Government, only some Socialist elements in our Capitalistic Democracy. Trump approved the pipeline by Executive Order anyway. People wanted to keep most of the elements of Obama Care and gave their Senators and Congressmen hell over their idea of a replacement. Also Democracy. Try again and remember not to be afraid.
