while it would be nice to think that it will just fade away like the Whigs, it is too important to monied and powerful entities for that.
So I think it will shrink, but become ever more untethered from reality.
The interesting thing will be among the Dems, where progressive elements have been revived, but where they're winning elections away from safe states and districts is with candidates who resemble old pre-Newt liberal Republicans more than anything else.
I can see it as far from impossible that a legitimate third party forms from the small remnant of not crazy Republicans and that wing of the D party.
