The loss on Wiener's seat

Should be the final nail in the latest Obama porkulus bill. Even Reid doesn't think he can get it to pass. No wonder he gave the speech before he wrote the bill, thought he could get it passed before the special election.

HIP HIP HOORAY!!  We don't need no stinkin' safe bridges, no stinkin' railroads, no stinkin' smooth roads.  That's why we have the freedom to be our own boss and take risks and be responsible for our own actions!!

The gov't builds railroads?  If so, then why do all the railroads get to use tax exempt red diesel?

I don't know if they do now or not but govt money should sure be used to upgrade the existing road beds so that maybe we could get reliable fast passenger service all over this country again.  Ever been to Europe?

I have always been for high speed rail.  Much more efficient than air travel on any trip under 500 miles.  Also, one freight train with intermodal containers takes over 300 trucks off the highways with a crew of only two people.  One ton of freight is hauled 430 miles on a gallon of diesel fuel.   Trains have a valuable place in the future of transportation.

Take the interstate highways and use one half of them for high speed rail.  Use the other half for two lane highways, or a "super two" with passing lanes on the sides.  Make the high speed trains with a wide track spacing... more stable, hauls more, faster.  If they are close to the speed of air travel and at a cheaper rate, people will use them in place of air travel.  Just imagine an I-35 set up so that you can go from the Twin Cities to Des Moines in 2 hours or less .... stop for a 10 minute exchange of passengers, then a hour and a half trip to Kansas City.  Then to Oklahoma City, than Dallas .... all within a few hours time.

Re: The loss on Wiener's seat

Only problem I see with that is that the interstates were designed for military use.  Of course, I suppose they could move most things by rail also.  Submit it to your congressman.  Love trains!!!!  Have a bunch of car hauler cars on there and I would travel that way anytime.
