Not exactly, although I do think that the response to our current economic crisis of the least well grounded of the liberals has been equally as putrid as that of any other group.
What's happened is that the economic elites have won the day. Competetive internationalist by nature, they as a group feel no obligation to the idea of a interconnected American people, much less any one person out of that mass. The people in general are starting to insinctively understand that. At which point emotions kick in and those who are wired to the left have gone flacid and those who are wired to the right have been energized. That gave us the election results of this past November and created a huge chasm in our governmental and political landscape. One that way more people have fallen into than know yet themselves. The clawing and the digging are going to drown out any chance for helpful dialogue or meaningful reflection to take place. It's going to be one great big mess with everybody angry with each other.
Maybe Obama gets to serve a purpose. He was for any better way of saying it elected as the result of a shared Messiah wish. The horse was already out of the barn. Some of the guys who left the barn door open were able to slip away. Some unsuspecting folks were left holding the bag. And then we went out and got us another dose of some of the worst that created the problems.
But as a result of all that just maybe if we are able to hold this democracy together we will be able find the absolute very best possible people to adminster it one of these next times and then stand behind them.
But for the short run, we are pretty much hosed.
