Re: There is no free lunch

Like last year’s ham handed evacuation of Afghanistan, it is just too easy to blame Joe Biden and his merry band of woke ne’er do wells for the stock market’s current situation.

The reality is that we have been on a twenty two year bender of unaccountable spending involving trillions and trillions of fiat dollars. This would include spending for meaningless wars, free stimmy checks for the bottom 80 percent of US households, tax cuts/credits/subsidies for everyone, generous government spending programs (a.k.a. Kickbacks, grift, vig, quid pro quo, etc.) for loyal friends and donors of congressional & administration members, climate change central planning fiascos, Big Pharma/Obamacare healthcare insurance “investments,” Covid mandates, bloated & incompetent federal bureaucracy, and zero accountability for anyone responsible for bad decision making.

What comes next will likely be painful for most of us. So be patient. We did not get here in a day or a month. It took decades of easy money and no accountability for this end of the world party. Getting fiscally sober again may take some time. Good luck, but do not sell the farm either.

hard assets free and clear.   The farm?  Maybe.  Don't think "land reform" is not something progs aren't thinking about.  Swiss bank maybe.

Sam,

If so, then it is Zimbabwe here we come.

98% of the ag land is owned by lily white folks.  Ripe for accusations of being inequitable based on past injustices.   Redistribution has already been called for.

Re: There is no free lunch

guys, here we are at an ag forum where you would hope sentiment for farmers runs a few degrees warmer than in general.

Karen brags about selling her farm, and buying a motor home, so her vote is easy to figure out. Nutz's more successful siblings put the kaboosh on his attempts to milk subsidies and call it farming, and Doofus spent his earnings on vehicles and trips and doesn't think anyone else advanced by industrious work, either. So two more votes in the " H yes....sell them out and divide it up!" camp.

I don't see any reason to hope that the USA doesn't go all Zimbabwe at some point in the foreseeable future. What is going to happen to stop it?

When I die and my estate gets divvied up by my offspring, I hope that they each have small enough inheritances to stay under the radar of what the coffee shop voting crowd feels is "reasonable entitlement".  That's my hope, but probably not the reality.
