Re: They can hear your conversations even if your phone is turned off

Or, you could be talking to your banker, and giving him details like your birth date, SSN, etc.

Or, you could be on your land line, with your cell phone in your pocket, ordering something with your credit card.

Or, in bed with your significant other, with the phone on the nightstand.

Or even in the bathroom at Hectars House of Tacos, after going through their refried bean buffet.

the list goes on.

I can think of lots of places, where the average person, with an average life, could be in situations where he doesn't want people to hear what is going on.

I don't care if I'm talking about the weather, it ain't nobody's business.

Re: Anybody seen anything of Sammy?

That kind of backhanded accusation is not really funny in this day and age Bruce.

Just curious how they can hear what you say on your phone when it isn't on?  Doesn't seem to that you would be talking on it unless it was on and connected to someone.  This came about with your boy bush's Patriot Act.  And, before you say it, dems did vote to approve it.  And just so you know, NSA has always had the capability to capture phone cons.  They just couldn't do it legally on Americans in the states without the Security court issuing a warrant.  But then bush didn't feel he needed a warrant even though he could issue the tap orders and still have have 14 days to put forth evidence to get the warrant and the court has NEVER turned down a reuest for a warrant.

Are you saying and believing that they have software that turns your phone into a transmitter without being powered on????  Get serious.  Really???  I worked in that line for almost 30 years and a piece of hardware has to be powered up or additional hardware has to be installed before it will transmit.  Also, this is with compliments of the last president.  Craig, if you read this, please explain how it happens.

If I told you, I would have to hunt you down and kill you.  Don't want to go to that much trouble.  Sorry.

Bart,  Just curious how they can hear what you say on your phone when it isn't on?  Doesn't seem to that you would be talking on it unless it was on and connected to someone.  This came about with your boy bush's Patriot Act.  And, before you say it, dems did vote to approve it.  And just so you know, NSA has always had the capability to capture phone cons.  They just couldn't do it legally on Americans in the states without the Security court issuing a warrant.  But then bush didn't feel he needed a warrant even though he could issue the tap orders and still have have 14 days to put forth evidence to get the warrant and the court has NEVER turned down a request for a warrant.

Don't find fault. Find a remedy.

Bart, while I can agree the Bush administration who was on watch during the 9-11 attack really pushed the envelope of what we have typically allowed our government to do in monitoring our phone calls and other forms of communication.

However you seem to forget that Obama and Dems have had almost 4 years to change these rules implemented under Bush.  During the beginning of Obama's presidency he and Dems had complete control of Congress and the White House yet instead of Obama and Dems backing off from some of the more aggressive NSA spying tactics they embraced them and increased funding on domestic spying.

Bart, you seem to go against your own tag line,  "Don't find fault. Find a remedy."

Your first reaction after reading John's post on domestic spying was to find and apply fault to Bush and Repubs.

One remedy for you could be to contact your elected Dems and tell them how you feel about domestic spying and that you wish they would change their stance so they are not so rigidly aligned with Repubs on this issue.
