Re: Thinking about '12 election

With all due respect, and much is due, I've got a presumed 30+ year jump on you in observing the effects of economic policies and their effects as they relate to politics and people's lives and livelihoods.

Was "present at the creation", almost certainly before you were born, of the Reagan/Thatcher supply side follies and have followed them down.  Didn't get my views from some books written by a grumpy old man who was in constant mourinng over the passing of teh greater fuedal society or by some repressed hag who got her rocks off by writing long, effusive fantasies full of crass generalizations and phobias in order to impress young elites and aristocrats.

"Spending has gone down."

Most ridiculous post sentence made.  Congratulations.

Re: Thinking about '12 election

On budgetary outlays it surely has. Hiring freezes and scaled back departments?  Ill advisedly delayed infrastructure maintenance, improvements and replacement?   Most surely. Defense, even.

Funding of things that are a response to the tanked private economy,  post Lehman and housing bubble?  Up...way up...and going up some more...indefinitely bacause it can easily until there is a drastic improement,,,,,with bi-partisan AND STRONG PUBLIC approval.  Extended unemployment benefits, food stamps, energy assistance....that sort of stuff?  It's non-structural and supported almost more by the general business community than it is by the citizenry.

Didn't realize how close you were to 80 Bruce. I really wouldn't expect you to question pop culture mythology at that age.

Re: Thinking about '12 election

He should do whatever is necessary to avoid a war. It won't bring anything good for you and I.

Re: Thinking about '12 election

Your math is probably off somme, but you surely do attribute mythology properly as it pertains to what I was referencing.

Re: Thinking about '12 election

Do you know why gitmo wasn't closed? Just a hint. There was so much hyped up right wing opposition  to bringing alleged terrorist into the national justice system. You heard the argument that they may escape from the maximum security prisons. We can't have them in america and tieing up our courts or insisting american due process.

I wonder if that opposition was mostly to shelter the previous administration from charges being brought for illegal treatrment of prisoners.

It seems that most of you folks don't think much of the geneva convention and don't want Bush Cheney actions closely examined.

Is it your premise the OBama inherited a robust economy and immediately caused and economic recession/depression? Is that your claim?

Re: Thinking about '12 election

There was less hyped opposition to closing gitmo than there was to Obama care. The reason they can not be tried in civilian courts is because the administration had already declared them guilty and guaranteed convictions. Every rule of our courts would had to be corrupted to keep the cases from being thrown out.

So you don't blame the trucker that drove the semi in the ditch but blame it on the guy that is trying to pull it out ? The semi is still teetering until it is back on firm ground.  The republicans haven't been interesting helping the process and have thrown obstacles to the effort.

By every measuring stick that you want to use, things have gotten worse since Bush #43.
