Re: Thinking about '12 election

Well, when you sarcasticly said "party of ideas" didn`t you mean Republicans? Those of us "thumpers" that supposedly want "big government intrusion" into our lives, well gays, socialized medicine, ect was shackled on to us by big government and "big government" is the only PEACEFULL way of removing those shackles.  The problem is to stay safe from all the post-911 intrusion will require a whole bunch of law repealing and new freedom protecting laws enacted.  Two things that aren`t even really big on RP`s priorities, one can only hope it would surface under a President Paul.

Re: Thinking about '12 election

Sam is dead on craig.  And they aren''t going to close down the straits.  We aren't the only nation or economy that gets oil out of the region.  Iran is a huge country with alot of people  who depend on it's economy functioning to some degree.  The government there don't want to have to deal with it getting much worse than it is.

If Iran runs into a potential military conflict (unrelated to the perpetual Israel ticking time bomb) it will come out of Europe, not  North America.  And the largely seculat Iranian population won't stand for a religious war.  They put up with the clerics, but the civilian government would face serious revolt.  It won't be good for anybody, so won't be likely to happen.  Isreal might decide they want to start something, but probably can't drag us in.. Helps now, also, that we've got a genuine diplomacy stud in our Secretary of State.

Back to what I said before about the campaign......if the GOP candidates continue to beat on Obama/Clinton foreign policy they will lose boatloads of potential votes from traditional Republicans and independents, by the day.

There area  number of things to NOT like about what is going on...the new (BIPARTISAN detention law, drone warfare, GITMO not having been turned into a baseball camp for disadvantaged Cuban youth (Is there any other knd?).   A bunch of things.  But the neoconservtives are being held at bay.  People like that.  Don't like what they did to us, to our economy, our image...both self and external... our collective spirit, not to mention the mortality and physical and mental condition of 10s of thousands of our finest young citizens, AKA our most valuable resource.

All of the stuff that should of or could have been done or been done better aside,  the sitting party has more to run on than you give it credit for.

Re: Thinking about '12 election

How do things that are popularly accepted and supported and enacted through democratic processes (I'm sure your list is long) become things that were shackeld upon you.?

But good for you.  You seem tobe commited tothe democratic process working on behalf of the changes you'd like to see come about.  The things you'd like removed, but even more so the things you'd like to see added to the list of things prohibited.

Good luck with that.

Re: Thinking about '12 election

Just cyphering with the data I haveavailable.  Seems from what you've said my adult kids are around 30 years older than your early elementary school brood is, and I didn't get figured out how to make one until I was almost 30.

Lets call it 20 then, for safety in the numbers.  Ishould be more conservative, I guess.  I was 31 in 1980.  Took a couple of  papers, and had radio and TV and knew alot of people  working  inand invested in dozens of fields of endavor  and occupations. Have observed how it played out, on average.

Re: Thinking about '12 election

2010 election was ALL about 0bamacare, politicians that WON ran their opposition to it up a flagpole, those that supported 0bamacare kept their damned mouths shut about it and hoped the public had a short memory.  Gays in the Army? It was passed by lame-duck politicians in the 11th hour, one month from the day it was passed they were out of office.  If a gay Army was so all fired "popular" WHY DIDN`T they vote on it with the set of newly elected politicians???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Re: Thinking about '12 election

You seem to hold some serious disdain for how the system works.  Be sure to stay observant of just how bad it is when it works to your pleasure.  I'm sure you just hated all of those reccess appointments that Republican Presidents make.

As for DADT, the potential votes were there for a goodly time, but for many in the Congess they needed to be made safe....sancitified as it would be.  It was just a matter of waiting for the Sec. of Defense and enough Generals and Admirals to say they were on board and it was going to happen.

They are trying very hard to ignore it, bruce. They've got all the air time bottled up, for now. The REAL CAMPAIGN HASN'T EVEN STARTED! LOL!!

You get a +A for spin, Bruce.

Smiley Very Happy "distain for how the system works",  what happened in my two above examples was dirty politics, like shooting a unarmed man in cold blood.  In the not so behind the scenes your team with admit that getting those UNpopular measures through and hope that the opposition runs out of steam when they get the power to over-turn it.  Dirty tricks like that have made the modren Democrat party the most corupt outfit on the planet and you guys wonder why you can`t win an election, even with fraud.  As to the gay military deal if the Generals and Admirals were on board, they could have certainly waited an extra 5 weeks...don`t insult my intelligence.

Re: You get a +A for spin, Bruce.

Where laid the obligation to wait when the legislation was prepared to be acted upon?

I know what you are getting at but you are acting like you don't know that the Federal Congression l Register is chock full of legislation that as been passed during lame duck sessons.  Your homophobia makes you particularly upset and well informed about this one piece and are trying to blame it on to something abnormal having happened.. Nothing procedurably abnormal about it.  Has been happening since the rules of Congress were laid out.

Ad those reccess appointments?
