Re: Solution for ya BA...

to:

You're probably and older person.  You confuse the amount of money with the value of money.

When you say somebody "makes" X amount of dollars you ignore what it now costs to live.  Our property tax, insurance, phone bill, electric bill, heating bill, fertilizer bill, cost of machinery has risen far beyond what they were in the 70's and 80's.

The government is the reason for inflation.  Inflation used to be thought of too few goods causing the price to rise.  Today there is simply a competition between government and private dollars with the government willing to spend any amount for goods and services.

My 4 wheel drive pickup in 1976 cost $5500.  My 1996 4WD cost $25000.  The one I looked at the other day was $40000.

Our telephone bill used to run less than $100 a year, today it costs $750 a year.  The NH3 I bought for $65 a ton is now $800 a ton and the $12, 56 pound bag of seed corn is now $300 and may only weigh 45 pounds.

So when you say somebody makes $100 it mean very little in the context of value.  Look at it this way, as a kid I bought nickel candy bars that were full size, today you get a slightly smaller candy bar for a dollar.  That means the $10 I made off a hog would have purchased 200 candy bars while today you get 1/2 that many for the profit from a hog.

exactly Wehav!

And speaking of roads, many of them were built by racist, whitemen with teams of horses, today the goll damned things can`t even be kept in repair with all this machinery and 6 Mexicans leaning on a shovel watching a Caterpillar putting along, pushing a rock that`s the size of your fist.

Re: This fits here like a glove

hey Schurrbart, at 18 this country had more opportunities and a brighter future than it does today.  Yes, I`m richer today at 50 but that has nothing to do with Democrats.  I actually do have a kid that is 18 and I am really worried about the country that he has been handed, he is the cream of the crop and if anyone will make it, it will be him, but to be the most successful person in a "Mad Max" world is rather like being the fastest racehorse in the glue factory.

At 18 I talked with Air Force and Marines recruiters, at that time there was no US war just Grenada and bombing Gadafi`s tent that sort of thing.  The recruiters selling point was to sign up for education aid and "we aren`t going to have a war".  A friend was in the Marines and after a couple years I saw him and joked "Are you Colonel yet?"  "No" he replied "It`s hard to move up the ranks when there ain`t no damned war on  🙂 ".

But that was Reagan, he kept us out of these never ending wars, he never took the "bait".   I never voted for Reagan, but liked him.  The first time I voted was for Ross Perot and I think the 2nd time in my life that I voted was for Ross Perot.   It wasn`t until i saw the damned Democrats wanted my guns that I started voting for the "lesser evil" ...so mark me down for a straight Republican ticket the rest of my life.

Re: Solution for ya BA...

Hi Wehav.

All well and good on what you said. I'm 48 , a tweener, not young and not old. I remember the 70 and 80's, i was a kid but very observant.

My Grandpa sold the farm to my Dad. Grandpa was rolling in it, until he got cancer and Grandma got alzheimers, the money went real fast. My parents struggled but survived, we had no extras, they could not afford to pay for my siblings or my college education.

Fast forward to now -  if my wife and I were so inclined we could pay for our kids college, hell 10 kids if we had that many, we could buy them vehicles, we want to go somewhere or do something, we do. We have no cc debt, owe a small amount on an 80 we just bought.

You guys can go back all you want,  I'm moving forward.

Re: exactly Wehav!

slowest death in the world = getting run over by a county road crew truck during work hours......... fastest death in the world = getting hit by that same truck at quitting time.

I remember, as a kid, passing by road crews  like you mentioned, except they were all white(no mex),  one guy busting his butt, six of them leaning on shovels, looking at me with disdain and saying with their eyes what a lucky kid, driving around on a tractor, got it made, I was thinking the same of them leaning on their shovels.......

Re: exactly Wehav!

Actually now the county guys are on the ball (I have to say that, they`re my friends 😉  )   My county supervisors are on the ball and contain costs well.   But these damned ragtag outfits that resurface blacktops and such that are contracted to do jobs within the county look like 3rd world jailbirds.  They all got Blackhawk county (Waterloo) license plates 100 miles away...probably out of "halfway houses" on work release.

I wonder what those righties think will happen when those liberatarian candidates partially strip the votes off of the GOP candidates. Or do they thinkthat 30% of the ballots for the republican and 25% of the votes for the libertarian will defeat the 45% of the vote for the democrat.. I think that has been tried before Eh BA? Shades of Ross Perot!

Things will change once the liberals run out of other people's money. In OH farmers are about to face property tax bills of over $100/acre. Then the whole country will look like Ferguson MO.
