Thanks for sharing that video. It really moved me as I thought of those heros that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country and makes me want to work harder to honor their deaths by being successful in the country they fought and died for.

That man is a great speaker, too, who is he? I had tears in my eyes towards the end of his speech.

Brady Pugh was a member of the marching band, as were his four other brothers, and comes from a military family that truly understands what it means to be an American.

My son is in that video, also. He is Boy Scouts Assistant  Scoutmaster of the troop there. He is the very tall Scout saluting in the beginning of the clip, just before Brady began to speak.

I was with the band, and his speech moved many to tears. He fully understands what the Day stands for.

Too bad more of you goppers donโ€™t know what the day means. AND didnโ€™t do anything to even get close to it.

Re: This is why we observe Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

have you ever heard the sound that a bullet makes as it whizzes by your head?

blurred lines

Yes, the historical context.

But then it inevitably flows into the present where we have a semi-mercenary force deployed in 90 some countries fighting wars that can never be won in any traditional sense.

Depending on how you choose to score it, the $750B annual cost goes straight on the credit card for "future generations" and the average citizen's participation is limited to wedging his/her fat butt into a stadium seat and cheering for Heroes. Maybe booing some protesters if the opportunity presents, in good WWE fashion.

It requires Fitzgerald's definition of a first rate mind to hold onto two contradictory principles simultaneously- it is right to honor service and sacrifice, past and present, but the current status quo is tragically messed up.

Trump captured by the real Deep State

https://www.commondreams.org/views/2018/04/20/trump-declares-mission-accomplished-syria-attacks-whos...

There's absolutely no reason to believe anything Trump has ever said but his campaign statements that suggested a less interventionist approach might stand as some justification for those who chose him over Clinton and the status quo.

But the Real Deep State quickly captured him, thoroughly.

The one thing he knows is that the biggest bump his pathetic approval ratings ever got was after launching a cruise missile attack on Syria and blew up some caves in AFG with the MOAB. And, getting The Folk roiled about uppity NFL players disrespecting Our Troops.

A very substantial part of his base is deeply committed to our military and its recent adventures- they just really thought "we" were going to finally win if they got the namby pambies out of the way.

Just like they'd been pounding the bar about forever.

campaign rhetoric is always suspect

But particularly from John Barron David Dennison Trump. If Parson Weems' fable about GW and the cherry tree were told about him he'd say "I cannot tell a lie- Crooked Hillary did it.

But anyway, when he said that the US would bring overwhelming force to bear and if that didn't result in victory, get out, people heard what they wanted to hear.

What a lot of The Base heard was the "very best military, overwhelming force, victory" part, confirming what they already believed- it was just namby pambies who kept us from "winning."

Of course we already had a very excellent military, so it was all just an excuse to go all in on GOP Reaganite Keynesianism- more military spending.

It'll be q heck of a parade, though.
