Re: True test

It may be a big problem to you, it honestly isn't causing me a lot of problems personally at present.

The upper and upper middle classes feel no pain from racial problems- they either locate somewhere with good public safety and public schools or send their chidren to private schools and provide privately for their own security.

As I'm often reminded they pay most of the taxes but apparently seem to be doing just fine.

Re: True test

And when one of those middle class people suggest giving the poor a voucher to one of those better schools he is shouted down by the slave masters that want to keep them as an uneducated sure vote.

Re: True test

Exceptionally comprehensive in a short space.

Double dog kudos.

Nixon's "southern strategy" comes to mind. Deeply codified.

Lost in all of this is how it might be going over with the post-racial 30 and unders. And lest we forget, they aren't likely to be polled like little old ladies sittting at home watching Glen Beck at night an listeing to Christian hate radio in the afternoon.

Hopefully there gets to be enough useful dialogue come out of this to make people think, at least as much as pop culture and consumerist urges allow them to.

Re: True test

You have it pegged hardnox. The right-wing manipulators have been trying since Obama began to gain in popularity to make something stick to him, just like Milligan does here with his Hitler BS. If they were more consistent maybe with their "name recognition and branding" it would have been far more effective than what it has.

It's now official, the right-wing extremists have managed to make Obama's presidency about race. From the Rush BS racist taunts and constantly trying to incite some kind of race war, to Glenn Beck and his "wanting to take back civil rights", to the ever stupid Breitbart and his useless crap that seems to warm the insides of every redneck, and every bit of it given non-stop promotion by Fox news.

You would think that the usual rednecks wouldn't listen to Breitbart and Fox after getting burned by them the last time he tried to be a video editor. I guess less than a minute of video footage out of a 48 minute speech was enough for him, and he claimed to not have seen the rest of the speech. What a coincidence, huh??? Anything to keep the rednecks amped up will do, true or not. The poor woman was reprimanded(forced to resign/fired) over something that happened not only when she DID NOT work for the USDA, but for another employer, and it was 24 years ago. That Breitbart and Fox, they're so .......(ahem)clever.

The right-wing has proved time and again what they are capable of, and will do, to get back in power. This stunt, along with all the others should remind us of that.

Re: first is memorable

Don't any of you remember the confederate flag on so many vehicles?  It wasn't about the south or racism.  That confederate flag was more about the attitude of James Dean or the Dukes of Hazzard.  For thousands of people it was about being a rebel.  A rebel.  Not about African Americans or white supremacy.  But it got that conotation from a group of liberals trying to start trouble and make a name for themselves.

Which liberals? The leftist/liberals that created the fictitious image of James Dean, or the ones that created the show THE DUKES OF HAZZARD, and it fictitious "good ole boys"? That blasted Holly wood liberals.

Re: first is memorable

Are you  seriouslysaying that Lott's comment about how we should have listened to and heeded Strom Thurmond years ago, and if we had we wouldn't have "had all  these problems" wasn't racist? Serioulsly?

Or are you referring to something else he said, like maybe something about good response time to his beach home neighborhood when it got hit by Katrina?

Re: first is memorable

Trent Lott told an old man at his birthday party he should have voted for him. Is that racist?

When conservative whites started opposing Obama's policies vehemently.....

Liberals pulled out the race card and it has gotten out of control.  This would not have happened had liberals and democrats left the race card alone.  Fox News fell for this just as the administration did so don't blame it on them.

Re: True test

Hi Bruce,

After a morning of thinking while doing mindless labor I'm convinced that things have progressed beyond repair. Probably just lucky I didn't cut a finger off.

The Whining White Party has now  thoroughly convinced the middlebrow volk that they are the victim or innumerable conspiracies and injustices.

FWIW the "I'm Tired" post is just one of a veritable genre of such but serves as well as any as a sort of manifesto. Sounded to me like the guy had it pretty good but he was By God conviced that life had been unfair to him. Pretty much says it all.

Further BTW,  other people who believe life has been unfair to them just aren't taking responsibility for their own lives. Go figure.

The WWP folks are like religious extremists with whom there is no point in reasoning.

They do present the greater threat to the republic- primarily because they are so easily manipulated by powerful interests- but whatever good one might do in opposing them, it isn't through media such as this.

I've perhaps found a bit of success, one on one, in this kind of way. Someone will start with the buzz words (Pelosi or Obama, said in a dismissive manner, socialist, gubmint etc.). You then listen to them, hear what they have to say and then calmly query them on a few things. Often people are reasonable at least but I don't know if you ever really get through at all or if they're just surprised at the response from someone who by appearance of race, class, occupation etc. should surely be a fellow traveler.

There are some opening key words that  tell you to disengage immediately and save your time- among those that come to mind are "muslim, birth certificate, guns, Beck."

From time to time I've enjoyed holding the fort here with you and some of the others. At least it hasn't degenerated into a complete one sided rant session like some of the other sites.

But other than being reminded of just how dangerous some of these folks are, what good is any of this doing?

I'll check in occcasionally to see what you've got to post that's interesting.

Best, h

One more thing, Q for Tom,

Hi Tom,

Just curious what led you to become a combatant in our little lovefest here?
