Trump and the freedom caucus
Unintended consequences.
Despite Daddy's threats, almost all of these guys are in ultra-red gerrymandered districts where the only possible threat to their incumbency is if someone even crazier takes them out in the primary.
And.....the Koch umbrella organizations have promised to defend them.
My guess would be that 90% of the RW participants here fall closer to the FC ideologically than to whatever it is that Trump and Ryan are- even if
Trump has been a welcome vehicle for their anger and resentments.
You guy's will just have to figure it out.

Re: Trump and the freedom caucus
Well, like I`ve said for a year now, Trump is all about "immigration" people like me are really pissed off about that single issue and are tired of idiots like Jeb and Marco tap dancing around about it only to have screwed us had they won. Trump`s support morphed into fear of Hillary`s SCOTUS picks, which then gained Trump the goody-two shoes Ted Cruz and Huckabee crowd.
The "freedom caucus" gave trump a gifthorse defeat of Ryancare. Because Obamacare left to it`s own devices will fail...except! Instead of moving to a "Jonathan Gruber" singlepayer had Dems been elected in charge. It can now stand a chance of actually being fixed with Republicans in charge.
Rand Paul is having a great week from this and on the way to being a rockstar

Re: Trump and the freedom caucus
I like Rand but as a rock star he sold around 4or 5 copies of his couple of most recent releases.
As for the FC:

Re: Trump and the freedom caucus
Yes, pretty much. Trump was the only and probably the last chance to do the right thing on immigration, had we taken an Obamaesque "solution" to immigration, we`d no longer have a country...well it`d be "North Mexico" if you want to be technical.
We don`t need a wall, if we just had the brains to follow laws on the books, we`d be alright. A wall, is just a big "no trespassing sign" as opposed to the damned "welcome mat".

Re: Trump and the freedom caucus
Meh.
The bipartisan bill would have accomplished as much as this is going to but Rubio sunk it when he realized it would hurt him running for President.
Basically immigration is just the litmus for the hard, hard core who think they can't be happy until the last one is dragged off.
Which means they'll never be happy but will be available to be played in perpetuity.

I vote for Trump because he was the only candidate talking about a secure border. No one here claimed he was a conservative. He is a JFK dem.

Re: Trump and the freedom caucus
Wonder some times how recruiting and organizing are going. How many are out there that missed out on the once in a lifetime chance that the Trump candidacy presented.
i'd not be surprised if the load of folks who have gone through life muttering under their breath about the darned this and the danged that who finally found a savior and as a part of that ran into others who shared their angst aren't more than a bit frustrated over all of this stalling on getting stuff done. So much "just known" "common sense" stuff and why doesn't everybody just understand?
My experience with those mutterers and their simmering complaints tells me that it won't take much to get 'em back to muttering and shuffling and being pain in the ***** curmudgeons and strange local characters.
GOP looks to be failing them. Maybe should delineate themselves off and start a new party. They can be like big grain farmers at mixed, more eclectic social events. Locate each other and then a table over in the corner.

Re: Trump and the freedom caucus
I`ve said many times that "2012 Mitt Romney`s self-deport" was the way to go and all it was required, of following the laws, putting teeth into the laws so offenders would never do it again (like running red diesel in your pickup) and do away with the anchor baby/ amnesty "carrots". But after Romney lost for 150,000 other reasons, the Republican party did a autopsy on itself and came to the misdiagnosis of "we need to pander to Mexicans". Well, they alone got people like me mad as hell..and basically got Trump elected. If Trump ran on amnesty, his polling would`ve been lower than Huckabee. If Jeb had coopted Trump`s immigrations stance, Jeb today would be known as President Bush #45.

Re: Trump and the freedom caucus
Well, take this for what it`s worth, but as pissed off, mad as hell as I was, I think the average Trump supporter had an even greater sense of urgency for the country. And I understand that a lot of what was on Trump`s campaign wish list won`t get accomplished, simply because of the system and the institutional corruptness of the swamp dwellers in the Beltway`s power structure.
Us Trumpsters look what the President is faced with, Maddow, SNL, Colbert, John Harwood, Dickerson ect ect and the Adam Schiffs, Pelosis, Schumers ect ect we know the president can only do so much..we understand and back him 110% just like some of you crazies back the...um Obama.
But yeah, it`s been 30+ yrs since a party has been in with power to affect good change. This is foreign territory, it`s easy to be against the 30yrs of corruption, but to repeal it and patch it so there isn`t dying in the streets is a Herculean task. You don`t turn the Queen Mary on a dime.
