Two Honest Questions for Conservatives

1. Why do you want to eleminate the Department of Education and what will that get us?

2. How is it that cutting foriegn aid (2% of the overall budget) will get us anywhere?

I am honestly asking these questions and many of you are good at honest replies. Thank you in advance.

Unless I give you a brain dead, easy to argue with, partisan response you won't even acknowledge the post.

What kind of response is that?  I am honestly asking these questions. If you think I am looking for a one-liner response, you have never paid attention to any of my posts or responses.  Have you ever paid attention to any responses I have ever written?

Just my .02 Knapper, the further you can remove the federal gov`t from our kid`s education the better they will turn out. Local control!  Foreign aide that we give out, what good does it do? They don`t appreciate it anyway, maybe if we hold off it`ll be more apparent all the good we`ve done in the world.  If we haven`t done `em any good?....Fine! we`ll save a few bucks.  Maybe both those things you mentioned aren`t big budget busters, but they do us more dirt than good.

Re: Two Honest Questions for Conservatives

Thank you for a response. I suppose that most school stuff is in local control anyway. What do the feds do? I don't have children and don't understand what the D.O.E does. As for foreign aid, how much does it really influence governments? True, we have wasted billions in people like the Shah of Iran and Noriega, but I am sure we have gained by supporting solid friends. The trick is in deciding. Anyway on that particular subject...Cutting it will not solve the budget problems. Perhaps we need to quit funding dark horses and marginal regimes. I just don't like it when peope suggest that will solve the budget problems when it has the potential to do some real good. I like real decisions based on solid facts.

Hey I am not trying to answer your questions and I really do  not know what your governments do with education but would put out the thought that all local decisions on education is not good either.

That is how you get a radical 'christian' community that would 'educate' their children in the erroneous 'science' of creation instead of evolution.

Or maybe a radical 'muslim' community that would 'educate' their children that homosexuals should be stoned.

Or maybe a radical 'atheist' community that would teach intollerance towards those who mistakenly belief in a god.

I think it is important for some greater community force to oversee education to make sure small radical groups do not teach wrong information.

Sorry if I barged into your serious questions but thought I would put my ideas in before they all start answering your question.

In other words, government knows best?

Re: Two Honest Questions for Conservatives

Federal involvement in education is massive. Our school system has two employees who's job is to simply manage the federal programs and compliance with their dictates. No child left behind is a huge albatross around our schools necks. Teacher spend a great deal of time teaching to the test. My third grader's class took 6 practice tests before they actually took the test. there are some special needs children that have full time employees devoted to just them. There are federal mandates just in the construction of the school. The waste Is endless.

It is assinine to borrow money to give to other countries, let them borrow it themselves.

Re: Two Honest Questions for Conservatives

No r3020 it is not that governmment knows best but a little oversight is necessary to keep small minded radical groups from disseminating information that is erroneous.

Or do you want an Iman teaching children his idea of how the world should be run with no oversight.

Or any number of other radical 'teachers'.
