What Bernie supports must ignore
The mass murders by socialism.
snip-
The goal of socialism was to reap the cultural, scientific, creative, and communal rewards of abolishing private property and free markets, and to end human tyranny. Using the command of the state, Communism sought to create this socialist society. What in fact occurred was the achievement of power by a group of inhumane despots: Lenin, Stalin, Mao Tse-tung, Kim Il Sung, Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot, Castro, Mengistu, Ceausescu, Hoxha, and so on, and so on . . .
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: “No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into.” Until that happens, there is no “after socialism.”
The West accepts an epochal, monstrous, unforgivable double standard. We rehearse the crimes of Nazism almost daily, we teach them to our children as ultimate historical and moral lessons, and we bear witness to every victim. We are, with so few exceptions, almost silent on the crimes of Communism. So the bodies lie among us, unnoticed, everywhere. We insisted upon “de-Nazification,” and we excoriate those who tempered it in the name of new or emerging political realities. There never has been and never will be a similar “de-Communization,” although the slaughter of innocents was exponentially greater, and although those who signed the orders and ran the camps remain. In the case of Nazism, we hunt down ninety-year-old men because “the bones cry out” for justice. In the case of Communism, we insisted on “no witch hunts”—let the dead bury the living. But the dead can bury no one.
Therefore the dead lie among us, ignored, and anyone with moral eyes sees them, by their absence from our moral consciousness, spilling naked out of the television and movie screens, frozen in pain in our classrooms, and sprawled, unburied, across our politics and our culture. They sit next to us at our conferences. There could not have been an “after Nazism” without the recognition, the accounting, the justice, and the remembrance. Until we deal with the Communist dead, there is no “after socialism.”

You would hope that..
our resident blind mice would read a very factual essay such as that, and have an "eureka!" moment where it finally sinks in and they jump out of their chairs and actually "get it" but its doubtful that any of them are capable of the thought process that would yield that.
The best hope for America is to have conservatives take over the government and take charge of educating the young, impressionable minds that still are capable of being molded into democratic citizens.
Great post....Kudos for posting that gem.

Re: What Bernie supports must ignore
Large-scale corporatism, singularly faith-based governments, single-party political systems, large-scale governments, dictatorships, kingships, etc., and communism all pose similar threats to individual freedoms, though perhaps not all exactly in the same way or on the same scale. We need to take care to not trade one evil for another worse evil.
And, my ancestors did not prefer to live in Germany, England, France, etc. How do we keep America, America?

Re: What Bernie supports must ignore
Ah yes. The Copenhagen concentration camps, Swedish death marches and brutal Norwegian criminal justice gulag come to mind as well.

Re: What Bernie supports must ignore
All of the places he mentions had really, really enlightened, fair and advanced societies and economies before they fell to violent marxist/maoist regimes, right?
I find it beyond pathetic that you have toads like this guy spinning out crap like this for some pittance, no doubt believing that they can hit the big time if they spread it on thick enough. Or maybe he's just a nut who actually believes it.
I find 0 equivalency between any of those third world, mostly post-colonial experiences with authoritarian marxism and social democracy in the west.
To the contrary, I find the prospect of continuing upward redistribution of wealth and political power to be more of a threat to the future of the republic- and more likely to engender unpleasant things in the endgame.

Re: What Bernie supports must ignore
He's barely that.
Would have been a moderate among New Deal Dems. And we survived that- in fact it helped bring about a period known as The Good Old Days.
I'm not selling a return to that as we're not likely to ever be in a position where every major economy except ours has been bombed out. But we can be decent, and do better.

So was Vladimir Lennin. Birds of a feather, flock together.
